Another trailer out, I guess we can have a thread about this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRoq6LM6pTw http://www.falloutthefrontier.com The Frontier is an upcoming DLC-sized mod for Fallout: New Vegas. It takes place inhospitable snowy ruins of Portland, Oregon, now known as The Frontier, an area perpetually undergoing nuclear winter. Storyline involves NCR expats, Caesar's Legion and a Scavenger faction. New gameplay features include dynamic weather which can freeze you to death, drivable (and flyable) vehicles, ridable mounts, fire spreading, and new weapon effects. There is apparently also a space station in orbit that you somehow visit at one point, go figure.
That trailer actually made me wanna do a Legion playthrough in NV.
I'll definitely take this mod into consideration when I'll reinstall New Vegas once again for my ultimate playthrought. Only, I don't think I have in me to play as a Legion-alligned character, even if I'm a huge Ancient Rome fanboy
Legion is actually really fun to play if you've already played the game like 7 times already. It's a pretty different experience.
Yeah I fucking hate the legion and all it stands for, but I have to admit it's pretty fun to play as the bad guys from a gameplay standpoint. Having to sneak around wearing disguises in areas you would treat like main questing hubs on other characters, sticking to the wilderness, rather than main roads and towns, when you weren't looking for a fight. Fun shit.
TBH I always go NCR, maybe that's why I'm so burned out of New Vegas. (always try to go max good) Do mods like this and New California let you play the regular game or do you have to remove them to play the regular game?
Yeah, I unfortunatly can only be a goodie two shoes, I hate being evil.
Old news but a long time ago, some discord mod on a server that kind of disbanded was pissed at one of the frontier mods (no idea why) but he had leaked an older build of the mod. I don't have the download link anymore (mostly because there was a huge uproar over it), but what I played was pretty great. If theres any story questions or anything, I can answer some of them. Not all of them tho, because I only played through some of it to not spoil myself completely. Also, they might have changed some of the stuff like voice actors or other stuff around. And proof. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/99389/6aff2446-2f10-4b0d-994b-064c34fb9bb9/ScreenShot21.bmp
Hyped. I'll get a character prepped so that once the mod releases I will just dive in
Regarding release, has anything been said about a release date? Last I heard it was supposed to release Q4 2017
how much content was there compared to the expansions for the original game?
I only played through the first act of the main quest, but it took a couple of hours for just that. The map is pretty massive (although there was a glitch where a texture spread across the map). I didn't go into side quests and companions, but the slaver one where you get captured by that merchant is in-game but with no voice. So I bet there is a good amount of side content. Also the space station is cool but I haven't finished the big part in it. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/99389/3fbf0502-622e-4aab-a0b1-a44be2384066/ScreenShot78.bmp And this was one of the cool moments in the game, where you witness the funeral of the squad that saved you from legion capture. There is a entire chapter where you play as a member of the wolfpack escorting your character back to a vertibird. Its a really fun mission that reminded me to COD. https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/99389/2635e9df-3bbc-417e-97a7-47e8467c44c2/ScreenShot79.bmp
You're gonna have a hard time not playing legion then
The Frontier constantly impresses me with it's ability to get me excited for an interpretation of the Fallout world I don't really care for. In fact, The Frontier impresses me with it's ability to wrangle the engine to look more impressive and at times, cinematic, than even Beth themselves could ever manage. In general, The Frontier really impresses me. I can't wait to play it.
Honestly, there were several times I was impressed during the build I played. They had actual camera movement during "cutscenes" that was good! I'm excited to see if they have improved more since what I played.
my biggest fear for the frontier is that it just ends up taking itself way too seriously with little to no light moments, and my biggest hope is that it has a good radio station
I had a dream where I played this and I thought "wow this is so much better than the tacky trailers made it seem" mostly because the game was actually about building a tram system Cities Skylines-style and I thought reflections of street lights on the tracks were on-fucking-point
just use big tiddy mods
