President Donald Trump directed the Department of Defense and the Pentagon to establish a Space Force as the sixth branch of the Armed Forces in a meeting with the National Space Council today.
“We are going to have the Air Force and we’re going to have the Space Force, separate but equal. It is going to be something, so important,” President Trump said.
"Should we deploy to the empty space inside your head?"
"Separate but equal"
Why this language? Why?
Terra trade tariffs of terror.
Remember the time he made people swear their loyalty to him by doing the nazi salute? I get the feeling being racist is just an instinct for him so it just randomly pops up in the middle of allegedly non racist things.
Its a waste of money, but if it ever goes through it better be fucking called the 'space marines'
The new war on Terra.
Militarizing space is going to be one of the worst things we could do to each other.
Arms races on the ground have been bad enough. Imagine when every Tom, Dick, and Harry start loading up space with weaponry that you can't otherwise stop, or anti-satellite weaponry that "accidentally" knocks out comm/navigation sats.
You can't say that stuff and not provide a source.
God damn it. Trump, why do you have to call it the Space Force? Call it anything else, for the love of the Gods. Space Force is the cheesiest, backyard-tree-house, name I've heard suggested for a branch of the armed forces. "Air Force" isn't that much better but you could've called it the 'US Space Defense Force' or the 'EOF (Extra-orbital Force)' or the 'ASF (Armed Space Forces)'.
But no. 'Space Force'. Ugh.
The Congress hereby declares that it is the policy of the United States that activities in space should be devoted to peaceful purposes for the benefit of all mankind.

501st rumored to be the first unit of the Space Force
do you think he'll demand the navy be renamed to the ocean force
Trump doesn't give two rats asses about treaties.
It's fine. We'll just have extraorbital jurisdiction bickerings going on.
I assume this space force will protect us against actual, tangible threats like asteroids and other near-Earth objects, not just serve as a meaningless assertion of power at the expense of our tax dollars?
Have you read about the SDI, aka 'Star Wars'? Or the space fighter concepts from the 60s? Or Project Orion? NASA may be a strictly peaceful agency, but the US military has always sought to maintain space-based capabilities and Congress has historically approved of it, regardless of what a non-binding policy statement says.
While I don't approve of this, considering how much of the GDP America spends on military... 1% of that and this supposed Space Force would probably be better funded than NASA.
Of course not, they're going to be fighting the war on Christmas.
If Trump ends up being the cause of a Kessler syndrome... I really hope I'm wrong and there is an afterlife... Because hell will be too good for him.

Well I'll be damned, he really is going to build a Death Star.
Its going to happen regardless, why would we expand into space and NOT bring weapons? Asteroid protection is one, obviously extremely unlikely but outside threats are another, no point in leaving yourself defenseless if you expand out to other planets, thats just ridiculous.
Because the moment you bring weapons you begin an arms race. An arms race like that has lasting consequences and can shift the balance of power in the whole of the world.
If the horrendous amount of money that the US keeps shoveling into the military ends up paving the way for more human presence in space, why the fuck not? At least it's better than keeping on building more tanks only to let them rust into hangars.
Why's he doing this? Because Putin's got the Russian Space Forces, and Trump wants to be Putin as much as he wants to be the exact opposite of Obama.
Since I'm pretty sure actual adults will be in charge of deciding what the Space Forces do, I'm betting that it'll basically take over satellite stuff from the Air Force, probably ballistic missile detection/defense, and maybe our own ballistic missile command. I really don't think they're going to start sticking guns on the ISS or anything like that.
Because, as stated, it will inevitably lead to an arms race. Even if the initial militarization of space is purely for protection against celestial bodies that could impact our planet, it's been shown time and again that people are flaky, paranoid shits, and as soon as you start putting weapons up there for any reason, they'll assume the worst, and start putting their own weapons up there for "reasons", which will inevitably lead to someone going rogue and dropping death from orbit. It may be 10 years later, it may be 100 years later, it may be 1000 years later, but it will be devastating when it happens, and the world will enter a permanent "Cold War" in the best-case scenario, leaving our planet ruled entirely by fear of indiscriminate death from space, and of our own making.

Alien 2: So they are an intelligent species?
Alien 1: I don't think so. They have all of their weapons pointed at themselves.
