Of course they fucking aren't. Anyone who believed them is a fool.
List of people surprised by this revelation: Honestly it's upsetting because I was really hopeful that we could finally end the bullshit, but it's not surprising that they're once again just being all talk.
"Liars once again proven to be liars."
In the end of the day the US is the loser here
I'm sure they're just being nice and slow about it. Surely NK will keep their word because the President of the US is the best dealmaker there ever was. And if it winds up that Kim lied, then Trump has given us his concrete and beautifully strong words on that too to rely on. “I think he’s going to do these things,” Trump said. “I may be wrong … I don’t know that I’ll ever admit that, but I’ll find some kind of an excuse.” The words of a true, stable, genius patriot who we can rely on to make sure this all goes right. Don't worry though, they still have 2.5 years before Trump will feel like doing anything about it despite there being zero activity or evidence of follow through on NK's part (which, again, why would they follow through - they've already won everything they wanted and have 2.5 years before Trump finally maybe does something about it).
I think the only thing that's bothering me with this is that I don't know the timeframe they are supposed to take them down. So I can't quite say if this is too soon to say they "aren't" or if it should be assumed that they already should be starting since it was indeed supposed to begin with all due haste.
Repeat after me: North Korea cannot be trusted Kim Jong-Un only cares about what will enrich him North Korea cannot be trusted etc
Two and a half years is the timeframe, more or less. Them not having so much as moved a muscle on it shows evidence that they're in no hurry to do so, possibly because they never intended to do so. There isn't even being a show of faith here.
Oh, okay. That actually makes more sense what y'all are talking about now, thank you!
I find it kinda' hilarious that this is also from the guy who made a massive stink about WE CAN'T TRUST IRAN, THE IRAN DEAL IS THE WORST ABSOLUTE HORRIBLE DEAL IRAN IS SPEARING OUR BALLS even though that included required inspections to be carried out. And then made this fuckin' deal with no actual way of ensuring the NK doesn't renege on their commitment. Absolutely incredible what a retard he is.
b-b-b-but the nobel
they would have to be literally retarded to have really dismantled their weapons just after a deal with one of the most untrustworthy nation in the world.
The only move for NK that makes any sense at all is to keep their nukes. Remember what happened to Libya? You simply can't trust the US. And you can trust it even less than usual with Trump at the helm. Keeping their nukes is smart. It makes sense.
Shame on the US for even spying on them and not believing them. How is North Korea supposed to trust us if we're not showing them unconditional trust?
The whole summit was an unmitigated disaster before it even began. Trump accomplished nothing, save for demonstrating to every rogue state on the planet that nukes are the key to being respected by the United States. Iran will definitely be trying to make nuclear weapons now. They'd be stupid not to.
of course they'll never do it and they know they can get away with it, because trump won't stop them trump stopping them would be admitting the summit was a failure and he'd never admit that fucking genius political play by kim, he's got america right in the palm of his hands
"He lied to me!" claims very, very smart man with a special brain.
The fuck is it's almost been a week and nothing has happened yet. Not the hint of something. Nothing.
Less true for dictatorships. If he wanted trucks there yesterday, they would be there.
The reason republics are slow as balls to do anything is because power is spread to different branches. Dictators are literally the only branch and control the entirety of the government.
Then why are there not people out there right now conducting a survey of the site?
I know there aren't because there's no reporting that there is. We looked at the sites with our satellites - there was nobody there.
US satellite recon can read individual license plates. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the latest spy satellites can read a business card in someone's hand. Saying the sats wouldn't be able to spot if people are on site, especially North Korean government officials or workers who'd bring vehicles to the site, is just ignorant.
It's only been like a week since a outline of the intentions of a peace process was signed, this kind of reporting seems premature.
In three months I'm sure little progress will have been made, if Kim is even still pretending to cooperate with the plan by then.
Yes that is one possible outcome but did anyone really expect any kind of denuclarization to occur so quickly and before a formal process with inspections, international oversight and assurances was put into place? This reaction is essentially begging for any peace process to fall apart unless it is unilateral on behalf of the North Koreans which is an absurd expectation given the power dynamic.
I mean the entire thing is a joke already. Trump's summit was nothing more than a photo op, and he gave away a whole bunch of leverage while North Korea gave away nothing. The peace process is going to fall apart because North Korea's playing Trump like a ten-cent tin flute and is going to keep playing along until Trump wises up and figures out he's being talked into giving away the farm. Then North Korea will invent some sort of diplomatic insult from either Trump or South Korea as justification for backing out and going back to saber rattling for five years to remind everyone they must be appeased. If Trump is re-elected, Kim will show interest in reopening peace talks when he senses Trump's in a pickle and is desperate for any kind of win. Just like he was desperate to make the Korea summit a win, even if it meant not actually asking North Korea to do anything except double pinky-swear promise to work towards denuclearization.
I'm somewhat confused, are you saying that NK only interested in a peace process to extract concessions and would simply abandon it when it came to their responsibilities? That they have no intention of any kind of agreement that would actually commit them to disarmament? I'm probably misunderstanding you here, could you possibly elaborate on what a non-joke peace process would look like? (And just to make it clear I'm not saying what is happening here is ideal, I would have preferred a full length summit with more concrete terms but I do believe that postponing the military exercises was the correct decision to make and is a message of good faith the US really needs to be putting forth given the historical record.)
A real peace process wouldn't have first begun with elevating North Korea's international standing and validating its decision to build and retain its nuclear arsenal while rushing to hold a summit so an American president can claim short-term prestige points with his cult of a voting base. A real peace process wouldn't see America agreeing to halt joint exercises with its ally South Korea for literally nothing in return with the additional possibility of withdrawing US troops from the Korean peninsula, and it wouldn't see the American president praising Kim Jong-Un in glowing terms and whitewashing his and his regime's manifold human rights abuses immediately after shitting on the Prime Minister of America's closest ally, Canada. And it would certainly build in verifiability by requiring unbiased inspections into North Korea's denuclearization process, which Trump did not require. Ironically, the Iran deal, which Trump derided as a terrible deal negotiated by the vastly inferior Obama as he ripped it up, had fairly vigorous inspection requirements and by all accounts Iran complied with them. This wasn't a peace process, this was Trump trying to make friends with another dictator.
