Since the Work bench came out last year the playerbase has been dropped enormously. Half of my friends are not willing to partake in Rust because of the blueprint system It isn't fun anymore. Maybe people doesn't become overpowered on the first day of wipe anymore, but it has become painful for the solo players like me. With the rising necessity of Scraps it has become hard to gather scraps by own also now when Scientists been added at the roads. It's much more easier for a group to flourish than an individual doing effort all day. Maybe many would oppose but truth to be told the game was much merciful to the new players back then than now. People get confused by the current game mechanics even as a player of 200 hours, so imagine how it would be for new players what to research or how to research. When I was a noob and joined a server for first I opened my crafting menu and I saw lot of stuff and understood what resource to get, that was easy time. But now after 400 hours later I see my crafting menu and I get confused what to do first. Now a new player joins a server, makes a base, crafts some stuff, thinks wow that was cool and then when starts to realize that's not enough, he needs scraps to build more he already gets raided by then because he did not have enough base defenses. The point is Rust doesn't have a tutorial so please don't make it more hard. Rust was intended as Casual so please keep it casual. We don't play Rust for realistic survival, we play it for fun. So basically after all these years it is safe to say Rust is loosing it's charm. Please:
1. Research Bench will show a choice of item to research. No more must have item first scenario. When player wants to craft certain item crafting menu will show 'you have learn it first' dialog followed by a hint 'You can learn items from Research bench'. When he uses the RB he will be given series of items to learn. He would need to gather required amount of Scraps to learn it.
2. Work benches will be needed only to Craft as blueprint research isn't needed anymore. Using a work bench will open a crafting menu but will contain those items for those corresponding bench is needed e. g. only level 2 WB items will show on level 2 WB.
3. Hazmat suit should have heath like other wearable items in the game also added as a craftable item. When at full health it will block most radiation (100% at the high radiation areas like military tunnel or launch site) but with the drop of health radiation block will decrease.
4. Instead of spending Scraps on research (essential component in game currently ) it is better to make it COMPULSORY component for any item to craft (keeping it essential as as before) e. g. crafting a stone hatchet could require stone, wood and 1x scrap.
5. Remove the minigame from the resource gathering. lets be honest those are pointless and waste of material when there's a miss for no apparent reason ( misclick or network latency issue). Also it is hard to keep eye on direction when focusing on the minigame.
I know it's lot to ask. Development has been advanced so far from legacy rust, but check reddit and steam reviews, I'm not being unreasonable. Majority of people are talking about the same thing. People are discontinuing Rust the new game mechanics really hard to handle. Keep the Rust casual and fun, that all I'm asking. Can't you do that in sake of community and playerbase?
Anyway still keeping my hopes up. May the force be with you, always!
I like it, it forces players to use what's available. Solo playing isn't really the problem, the problem is the limited amount of choices in acquiring scrap. What we really need is more stealth and that's pretty impossible since hitting anything is like a huge alarm.
While I agree with some of these points, none of it will ever change.
Rust will only go forward from what they've already got, not go back.
January force wipe there was 68k players, June force wipe 43k players. It has definitely gone down a lot, but now it has started growing again (Summer holidays started etc) and i hope it will keep growing and not go down like it was before June's force wipe.

I'm so confused. Wipe day was subconsciously added to my brain like New Years or Chistmas. Whats going to be new, maybe they will fix the hackers, might get a new official server with low latency. I cant wait, must be first in to get prime real estate spot. Now its not that big of a deal. I want to play, but then I think of the scrap grind, most of my farming gets lifted off me, and I may get 20% back to my base. But I am raided on 3rd day of wipe for 2nd time before I get chance to change to metal and honeycomb. So then what? Start the grind again to get another work bench , research table, waist countless hours trying to get key passes. I found it surprising that I see the same 5-6 big rocks of sulphur sitting nearby a high traffic area that nobody bothers to mine. The dynamics have changed. Can there be more boats to spawn? I read that its 64 total, several times I had to run from one end of beach almost to other side of world following the coastline. I think maybe put some elite crates to untie on some random shipwrecks. I found diving a good way to get scrap once I could round up 3 airpacks and the rest of the diving gear, fuel , boat as a solo player. That was a nice improvement! Also I dint see any outright in my face cheaters either. Big thumbs up on that as well. IDEA: I suggest somehow getting a passcode instead of a card that opens the door but also can only be used a limited number of times. That way when I miss a jump at launch site I can still attempt to run back in a salvage my loot. Also nobody can steal your hard earned cards.
I disagree with that. If their customers aren't happy and their game is going downhill, they should probably listen to the people that actually play the game. What's the point in making a game people don't wanna play? There was nothing wrong with the way the old bp system or exp system was, oh wait, people said it was "too grindy"... but then they add this hybrid system and it's 10x more grindy than before. At least with the XP system you got what you deserved. The time you put into the game was worth your time, and people couldn't just get things. There was actual progression and if you were offline raided, you weren't left with nothing. Who cares if you unlock the bp's... you still have to find all the components again.
Because no matter what the devs do you're going to have people love what you did and those who hate what you did. It has been the same literally every update where a chunk of people hate everything that changed while other chunks love the changes. The devs read the forums, they see what people say and they know all the numbers.
Just like a ton of people hated how the AK recoils now, a lot were very happy with the change. The game grows and changes, and if you can't adapt to the changes then of course you're going to hate it. But you can't please everyone, and I've yet to find ANY game that has ever been perfect in every sense of the word for every single person playing it.
As for the game going "down hill" it's already been shown a dozen or so times in this forum that the player base dips during the summer months. That is actually something very common for a lot of industries, including the one i work in myself. New games come out, people in the northern hemisphere enjoy the weather, and when winter hits and nobody wants to go outside the player base jumps back up. With current stats Rust is currently 14th in average players per day on steam beating GTAV, Elder Scrolls Online, Payday 2, and others. If you were to take out the free to play titles that bumps it even higher. But don't take my word for it, see for yourself Steam Charts
In any event apparently Rust has been dying for the last for years, so what do I know.
Is Rust a dying game?
Long story short, the devs have a plan. The devs read the forum. The devs make changes that they know will not make everyone happy. If the devs believe they made a mistake with their decision they will change it. But a handful of people fed up with their game isn't going to change their minds, because like I said you can't please everyone.
@Unclejimmema I understand you can't please everyone. I was a server owner for a few different servers, so I understand how there's always going to be people that don't agree with you on things. However, this isn't me talking about an item they added, or changes to recoil and what not, this is something I've heard over and over again from players. It's not just a handful of people. The game is literally so grindy that people are starting to not want to play. The only people that will want to play are people that can be online 6-8+ hours per day.
I also look at the Steam Charts every other day, and from what I've noticed, summer is usually the peak of players. Only time will tell if this summer is as close to last summer or summer of 2016 when I personally think Rust was at it's best. When I purchased Rust and first started playing, it was so simple and enjoyable. All the people I've played with or knew that played Rust were die hard Rust players, and a lot of them have quit. They quit because of the grind and how it's not enjoyable now. It doesn't feel like a game anymore, it feels like a chore/job.
If you compare Rust to Ark, and I compare them because they are very similar, what keeps players around on Ark is because it's a lot harder to offline raid people, and your base doesn't decay unless you haven't been on for a significant amount of time. In Rust, you have to get on every day unless you have the TC stocked full of resources, which may or may not be there the next day depending on if you got offline raided.
All I can say is, hopefully the devs have a plan on fixing these issues, and hopefully they fix them before their playerbase moves on to other games. I've moved onto other games because of the grind on Rust. I'm not trying to be negative, but I am trying to be straight forward. Upkeep is too high, and the build 3.0 update ruined it for me. You have all these base builders designing bases on YouTube with a bunch of exploits because of how desperate they are to help protect players because of the build 3.0/3.2 updates.
I read the timeline and watch every video that comes out on the updates and like I said, I watch the Steam Charts for Rust. I really would like to play again, but I wont until the game is optimized and isn't as grindy. Until then I am going to speak up and say things a lot of others don't say, instead of just leaving.
You said it yourself. People try new games on Summer vacation. That doesn't count becoz 10% of them will stick and 90% will leave on the few hours of play. Those matters who actually love the game and play intently.
I do agreed the progression system is a bit too much of a grind. Helk or who ever else is in charge of "balance" could look into the impact certain items would have in gameplay. basic clothes items such as shirts, tanktop, t-shirt, could be default craftable, but would require T1 work bench. then they could just reduce their drop potential, or just remove them from the drop tables.
So they read the forums but no good suggestions never get added, instead they keep implementing garbage like Bandit town and don't fix the real problems.
Only agree with 5th measure, the rest I like it as it is, I'm finally adapting to it
@Unclejimmema How is this normal and like every other experience you've been through with Rust players claiming Rust is dying? I don't say things based on opinion, I look at the facts. Rust is extremely rocky right now and it's going in a negative direction. If you go back and look at the Steam Charts, the past 4-5 months have became very unstable. All the stuff they are adding is cool, I enjoy seeing what they do, but the upkeep/component/blueprint/scrap system is killing it.

It's not normal, which is something to be expected when a boat load of massive game changing updates occurre. The fact of the matter is the games not dying, people might be leaving the game sure but it's doing a hell of a lot better than say lawbreakers. At 26k players online I'd hardly call it a dying game.
I've said this before and i'll say it again, there is a difference between the words "dying" and "dead". Is Rust dead? No. Is it dying? Yes. They are making it extremely difficult for solo players/small groups to play. For a tier 3 item, a solo player has to go get 700 scrap, but for a 20 man clan, each member has to go get 35 scrap. Solo players can't build decent sized bases now, but big clans can still build massive bases. They are pushing for big groups on Rust, and to me, that will eventually kill the game. Not everyone likes to play in big groups. Solo players/small groups will leave Rust, and big groups will eventually get bored. The issue i'm seeing with you @Unclejimmema is that you are focused on the present and I am focused on the future. Rust is becoming very unstable according to the data and the more puzzles and updates they add that cause more grind, the more unstable it's going to become. Everyone thought the XP system was bad...
And? Like I said some people adapt and keep playing, others get disenfranchised and leave. At the end of the day it's Garry's game, and he's going to take it in the direction he wants to. Having been a part of Facepunch for 13 years now I know that Garry is going to continue changing things, and will admit when he makes a mistake and correct it. Some folks will like what he does, and some will hate it. And maybe the changes he makes might kill his game, something he has spent a large sum of money and time on. But knowing what I do after 13 years, he's not going to let that happen. So you can either stick with the ride to find out if it gets better or leave it. The devs read the forums, the devs see your concerns, the devs have the numbers. If they think they need to change something back they will.
I understand where you're coming from. I'm not trying to be negative but I am pretty straight forward about my opinions. I've been on Rust for 2 years and I know they do listen to the community because when everyone hated the XP system (which I loved btw), they scrapped it and went in a different direction, and I remember that being because a lot of players hated it. I do like the changes they make. It's really interesting to see and if done right, it can work. All the changes they've made recently aren't killing (the feeling) it for a lot of players, it's the constant grind. Hopefully they take a good look at how all these changes are affecting the balance between solo players/small groups vs large groups. Large groups already have the benefit of fire power, and farming power, but the way they are changing the game, it is all centered around large groups. I had one of my servers die because there were a lot of solo players/small groups and then one large group (at least 12-15 people) came on there, and the rest left. There's no way the small groups can be on the same server as large groups. It's just too much of a balance issue. That's the main thing i'm concerned about.
Honestly, coming across too many blueprints and diving gear is making it worse, but Rust isn't really about grinding in my opinion, it's like even if you have just a crossbow, you can still outplay someone better equipped than you. Grinding is suppose to be a last resort when you can't do much else.
This. Absolutely. Now we have pitch black nights, that one last step enabling stealth would add a lot to the game. ooh ... bone knife to the throat from behind as a silent player/scientist kill.
You may hate it. But people with no friends and social lives love it . people with cats as avatars as an example
Melee and stealth would be more viable if the longsword wasn't such a pain to get and outdated by the time it was obtained. Would be cool to use for a change.
did they really? I don't think so. If everyone played solo that might be possible but toxic doesn't play solo.
just live with it men
Wipeless Rust is suppose to be apart of the game soon eventually since it's in the road map. If BPs were more permanent than it would make sense for Rust to be grindy since even have a basic bp could affect hundreds of play throughs.
I was playing last day and only one thing kept coming in mind was "have to farm scraps, have to farm scraps, have to farm scraps" and couldn't play freely. It's not fun anymore.
Crafting was so much fun back then. You farm the components , craft some C4 and go banging. Now it's all crap!
man I aint even gonna play this shit until maps last like 3 months otherwise not worth my time grinding for everything to be gone in 1 week...
Wipes are usually monthly, believe me, as it stands, more than one month becomes HELLA BORING. And btw try not to necro old threads (Though I'm as much as I culprit here as you)
