If she hadn't died recently, I bet Nancy Reagan would've agreed with these ladies as well. Nancy may have caused incredible harm with her "Just say no" campaign, which essentially turned the war on drugs into a victim-blaming exercise, but she loved her country and she loved its citizens. I think she'd be aghast that America was treating children this way in an official capacity. I'm honestly pretty fucking scared of the ~1/4 of the country that polls as being in support of these policies. They're either insulated from the actual facts of the situation and believe they're supporting a much more benign enforcement situation, or we've spotted who the new wave of American Nazis are.

Its the former, my family is all huge Trumper's and every bit of bad news coming from the border is 'they knew the risks, they knew they shouldn't come illegally'. Recently with this whole children fiasco its "Their families brought them illegally, and they knew the consequences" and more recently "children are already being separated before they cross, they get the smugglers to bring them acrossed seperately and we just house and fed them, its better that way." By the way they then launch into a tantrum about "we give these illegals food and shelter, they got their air conditioning and their games consoles on OUR tax money!" Btw this is direct quotes from my family who attend church every Sunday and exclaim to me the importance of love thy neighbor.

Its hard to take a lot of American Christians seriously, particularly evangelicals in the south and middle America. They say they take the bible 100% literally, but really they take "Accept Jesus Christ as your lord and savior" and barely listen to the rest of the bible. Unless of course its against gays, abortion, or women. It frustrates me that other than loving Jesus, the majority of what else they take away from the bible is hate.
