The page will probably get locked behind a paywall, so here's an archive.
Oh dear god. Even MORE consolidation of media powers? Fucks sake.
So is that it? Is it official? Oh, I guess the government has to decide whether they’ll allow it. (they will)
It's not a good thing but you know I'd rather Disney have the assets than Comcast in all honesty.
It's absurd we have to be grateful a titan company consumes another but at least Disney is more for actual entertainment and not invading your privacy and fucking you over if you don't give them even more money (yet)
As much as I hate this, I hope this means the original Star Wars will finally get rereleased.
i now await for "Deadpool 3: moving over to the MCU"

I love how the News and Sports section of Fox is splitting off and becoming "New Fox" "Good Evening and welcome to the Sean Hannity show only on New Fox News"
Why are there no monopoly rules to protect this? Disney, comast and others are swallowing up everything, consolidation is NOT good for capitalism.
With this acquisition, Disney approaches 50% of the market share of the entire film industry. Please, anyone, explain to me how this is a good thing that Congress should allow.
It's not.
There's a whole lot of corporate/capitalist/economic disinfo around these parts, but this is, in every sense, a fucking awful idea that can and will prevent market forces from functioning properly.
unpopular opinion: given the current administration, if 21st century fox is going to sell, administration won't block them via anti-trust
given the potential buyers with the cash to play ball, as far as content goes (and general least scummy factor), i'd hate disney buying them the least
Maybe we're finally going to get those theatrical versions of the original Star Wars trilogy
yep with net neutrality gone at the same time lol
captured
I'm just waiting for them to show up in the next Kingdom Hearts game.
Considering how Disney prices their DVDs and Blu-Rays, if this means that movies from 20th Century Fox are gonna shoot up in price I am gonna be so pissed
Honestly a bright light in all of this.
Honestly, at least now we can get rid of all the "People don't care about the X-Men"-tier excuses for why they axed various things owned by 21st Century.
I'd totally get a chestburster plushie, just saying.
Part of me thinks this wouldn't have happened if Fox wasn't holding so many bits and pieces of intellectual properties they have.
Perhaps antitrust could stop most of this sale but let them have those parts since as far as I can tell a large reason they're interested is that fact. Seems ideal.

Sadly, these were made quite a while ago and any available are now hard to find

IIRC some Lucasfilm employee mentioned a while ago that Disney has no plans to rerelease the theatrecal cuts of the OT, and that it's not due to any issues with the film rights.
I'd make the assumption that either George put some kind of clause in the Lucasfilm sale contract to prevent this or they're simply just choosing to respect his wishes, but that's just me guessing shit, I wouldn't know for sure.
?
I just want them to take that stupid "Noooo" out at the end of ROTJ.
LucasFilm considers Lucas's Special Editions to be the definitive and canon versions of the movies.
