By the time gamers figure out streaming ~~~services~~~ will be an utter dystopian shit hole, it will be way WAY too late.
By the time we get internet connection solid enough for that to be even viable two generations will have already come and gone anyways.
Are there situations where it's okay to preorder a game? Have there ever been times that it was okay?
Back when I was a wee lad, during the GameCube/ps2 era, preordering actually had a reason. I remember games selling out on day 1 so if you didn’t have a preorder you wouldn’t be able to get the game for a few weeks. Maybe not 100% necessary because you could be patient, but if you really wanted to play day 1 then you would need to preorder.
Today? no. Never. Nes/Snes/PSX/PS2 era? you bet your dried up shit there was!
Eh, if you’re getting it cheaper by preordering I would argue it’s understandable.
