https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6ld6s6KENg According to wiki, this is the first animated film banned in Russia. Very weird but cool film. Also, 6:15 ...😂.
honestly cant tell who i like more the guy with 3 moustaches or the guywith 6 eyes.
It's awesome to see this ancient animation somehow. Like it's slow and meandering in every way modern critics will dunk on a movie for, but it's really fucking good. It captivates you and makes you actually follow what happens, rather than having you constantly absorbing inane exposition between action scenes. It really takes me back to when i was a kid. Back in the early 90's every kids cartoon on TV was from the 60's, 70's or 80's and the import of Disney's earlier films had only just begun. So most animation films or cartoons were mostly 5-10 years or older european productions with this kind of slow pacing and non-hollywood dialogue. I guess it's hard to explain, but just the slow, flat pans in this film really took me back to what i'd call a less insulting era of animation, i guess. I know this one is supposed to be both political and artsy and intellectually stimulating and whatnot. But there really is something to be said about even the purely entertainment geared animation of that era. It had a totally opposite toolbox to keep a captive audience than today's movie industry. People were used to consuming visual media like they consumed books. Like, you bring at least as much of your own imagination to this film as the animators did because there's so much of it that isn't explicit or even implicit. I guess that's part of what i'm latching on to here: Imagination on the part of the media consumer has really just absolutely deserted modern animation and film-making in general. It used to be a journey that film-maker and viewer went on together, now it's just an automated carnival ride. TL;DR: Life is empty and all is lost.
Jesus, I've only skimmed a bit here, but what I saw makes me feel like if I watched this in its entirety, my soul would be lost forever.
That was great. Despite looking completely weird it makes sense when you watch it in its entirety; it's a classic aesop tale but with a completely wacky art style. I really like it, it scratches a particular surrealism itch that I have personally.
I gotta admit I laughed at this https://i.imgur.com/OWEhf0r.jpg
Nah, this can be good for the soul. It ends well, by the way. I love this kind of surreal story telling, it's a fascinating glimpse into the crazy stuff the mind can produce.
Is this CalArts
