This is nothing new, from Mao to Hua to Deng to Xi, all have attempted cults of personality. It's practically a part of their culture by this point.
I've talked with people from China a lot. Xi's current angle is that he's a man of the people, and he pushes a patriarchal angle a lot in his cult of personality. They call him "Papa Xi" and hang up portraits in living rooms.
Sounds a lot like Mao and the Little Red Book.
Poor chinese peeps
Poor Hong Kong getting this bs forced upon them
Why does china have to be so oppressive?
Money and power.
Once you have power, power becomes a reason in and of itself.
Insecurity
It's always been this way.
They have been doing this in our universities since like 1990s. Not Xi specifically but we have our own dictators. I'm not sure how this is a big deal, they even push anti-evolution stuff in our universities. Anything dissenting, even scientific, could easily end you up in jail.
Only thing weird about this article is the fact that China of all places took this long to propagandize their leader.
