DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia could consider a proposal to dig a maritime canal along the kingdom's border with Qatar, turning the peninsula-nation into an island and transforming its only land border into a military zone and nuclear waste site, state-linked Saudi newspapers reported Monday.
The project has not been given official approval and faces many obstacles. Still, the proposal signals a new low in the 10-month-old feud between Qatar and a quartet of nations that includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Bahrain.
The four accuse Qatar of sponsoring terrorism because of its support for Islamist opposition groups in the region and its warm relations with Iran. Qatar denies the allegations and says the moves attempt to undermine its sovereignty.
Qatar's ruling emir, Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, met in Washington on Monday with U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis. He is scheduled to meet President Donald Trump on Tuesday.

This is like cartoonish levels of supervillany.
Isn't one of the big reasons the Saudis hate Qatar because of Al Jazeera? I understand that Al Jazeera is biased towards Qatari things sometimes, but I actually think it's a pretty good news network, especially when compared to CNN, Fox and MSNBC.
Yup, they even threatened Qatar and asked them to shut down Al Jazeera because they broadcasted/brought light upon some of the anti-humanitarian practices. That and the widespread coverage of the Arab Spring, which they felt would be a threat to the royal family. In fact, they started their own news network called Al Arabiya to try and counter this, tho Al Arabiya is much less successful than Al Jazeera.

This is, like, cartoon villainy
Retarded move from a backwards state. Not surprised.
Tbh this is probably as close to a real life version of this gif as you can get.
This would make Qatar more well defended from land based combat and tanks so if the Saudis do it they essentially would make Qatar capable of revolting and succeeding against the Saudi state if they were given enough time to build a navy.
while we're on that note man wouldn't it be nice if the U.S. had an island fortress to conduct operations around the middle east with and also protect Qatars seemingly limitless supply of oil?
I don't think the saudis are thinking this one through because Qatar only stands to benefit..
It's all talk. Saudi are exactly as guilty of sponsoring terrorism as they accuse Qatar of being
