It's amazing to me that this passed 5-4 with roberts joining all LIBERALS, I thought republicans were suppose to be for the constitution?

Unless there's some nuance I'm missing, this seems like a good thing? While the argument that there's "no reasonable expectation of privacy" in regards to your cell phone carrier's records is a reasonable one, the requirement of a warrant is a step in the right direction so far as privacy rights are concerned, and is in line with the constitutional limits on search and seizure.
I completed agree this is the right decision, I'm just a little baffled that republicans are supposedly for the constitution and the 4th amendment and then all but one votes against this.
Here is the vote breakdown

Oh, I understand now! I thought you were saying that this sole Republican justice had somehow gone against the constitution by voting yay, but you meant that of the nay voters. Makes a lot more sense lol
I think it’s because Republicans really like the idea of giving law enforcement unlimited power and this doesn’t jive with that.
At least up to the point that law enforcement begins investigating Republicans.
Roberts has sided with liberals before, he let the ACA be ruled as a tax so the feds could make states have it.
