Republicans are completely and totally self serving. Their primary goal since the southern strategy has been to enrich and protect themselves as much as possible, no matter what the cost is to everyone else.
They don't want to protect children, they want to protect their children. They don't want free expression, they want free expression for themselves. They don't dislike authoritarianism, they're just terrified someone else will get their foot in the door before they do. They don't dislike the mistreatment of women or religious law, they dislike other people mistreating their women, and the law not being their religious law.

Maybe they aren't citizens, but they're still children. It's probably traumatizing for a child to be forcefully separated from their parent at young ages you know? Is that okay with you so long as they aren't the "proper" nationality?
