...So?
it's very important to get all details together so that the broader picture of something can be understood but also you're right, because this one detail doesn't 'lessen' how fucked this whole thing has been
Making the your facts are straight before you report them is absolutely necessary in this debate (or perhaps in general in the post-truth age). Trump supporters will now use this to try undermine criticisms.
Each time it comes out that photos are not what it seems, it just means next time something happens even more people begin to question if they are even legitimate, which is a really bad direction to go down and hurts the overall situation these people find themselves in.

We weren't lyin!' Similarly, the trump sitting down angry at the G7 summit paints a very different photo in 2 different shots:
What? no. All I was saying is that this one specific instance doesn't matter. It was just a picture meant to illustrate the overall facts
This is exactly what is happening right now. They've found their golden bullet to discredit the entire scandal. One little slip-up shouldn't really matter in the grand scheme, but for a lot of sceptics, this seems to be proof enough that the entire thing is faked.
Who used the picture first? What if it was used on purpose to sabotage the credibility of the whole thing? Might sound far-fetched but it's a possibility.
It's almost like these things are promoted by people that know they'll look really bad where exposed 🤔
that moment when fake news is actually fake news i'm not a trump supporter please don't lynch me
Reporting something is which untrue is a shitty thing to do regardless of who does it. It's pretty obvious you know.
Fucking hell I hate this kindergarten-style of politics.
Was it ever claimed she was separated? I thought it was just supposed to be a emotional shot, but I agree it may be a bit disingenuous to do that without explicitly stating the actual situation. In Swedish media her photo was shown with another of her and her mother.
You need to look at the bigger picture. When you report a situation or piece of news which is actually incorrect and not even close to what it was made out to be is highly unethical. Another important aspect to look at is while the majority of people think what is happening is wrong, there are still people who are polarized and because of the blatant misinformation given are going to use that to push their "fake news" agenda. There is a huge different in "carried away screaming by USBP Agents" vs "taken away together." One is blatantly false and the other one is true. I don't understand, with all the awful shit going around nothing needs to be made up to prove anything. All this does is help damage any cause. The picture itself is a good picture and basically sums up the situation. I believe the picture is still a good and meaningful picture. Its just the narrative was a blatant lie.
White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders on Twitter claimed that Democrats and the media "exploited this photo of a little girl to push their agenda". "She was not separated from her mom. The separation here is from the facts," she wrote. Pot calling the kettle black
Oh no! This completely invalidates our cause!
I think it's important to get your facts straight but at the same time the fact that this particular picture in question has been incorrectly chosen doesn't exactly mean that the claims regarding the situation at large are false. It really is a shame that someone made this mistake, but the fact remains that separations are occurring. It can't exactly be denied.
