Deleting quotes in a new post doesn't work in Android

Currently using Google Chrome. Originally I was going to name this "Deleting quotes in a new post doesn't work in the mobile layout" but at the moment I'm not sure if this bug is specific just to Android or just to Google Chrome.
Anyways I found out that I can't delete quotes while writing a post. I tried both placing the cursor right after the quote and hitting delete and selecting the quote and hitting delete. Both cases take me out of the text box.
This is kind of irritating coupled with the fact that WIP posts are saved between sessions, so I actually can't do anything until I get to a desktop.
It seems to be a limitation to the keyboard your using, as some keyboards don't have this problem
The way I fix it if I accidentally quote is to move my text cursor directly below the quote, press the {} code button, then backspace. That deletes the quote, and then I tap {} to remove the code formatting.
If I try to delete the quote without that method then my keyboard just closes and the quote doesn't delete. I accidentally stumbled on this method and it's a bit of a hassle but the only option for me on mobile.
On a Nexus 6 using Gboard btw.
Holy shit, thank you! Have a diamond.
The above works with Xperia keyboard too, but you need to type at least 1 character into the code field before pressing backspace
OH MY FUCKING GOD IT WORKS
YOU ABSOLUTE LEGEND
