There are very few Facepunch users who can remember a time before the LMAO Pics thread series. For the entire time I've been on Facepunch, LMAO Pics has been chugging along in Fast Threads, providing equal doses of hot memes, dank videos, and dumb shit. But how long has LMAO Pics been going? Who started it? And what were the early days of LMAO Pics like? I dove into archive.org to find out As it turns out, the first ever "LMAO pictures" thread was posted on December 16, 2006 by the user SlaughterDog. These aren't just funny or random pictures, these are pictures that actually made me Laugh My Ass Off. Post pictures that made you laugh your ass off. And what did SlaughterDog provide as the first ever LMAO Pic? It was this image that started it all: https://i.imgur.com/cBQ1Pf5.jpg This image was the genesis of the entire LMAO Pics thread series, which has since run into hundreds of threads over 12 years. Here's a sample of the opening pages of the thread: https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/9605ea8f-46b6-4db7-a327-1cc8110f997a/Untitled-1.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/db194f59-74b4-4952-a4dd-678f7c5b1208/Untitled-2.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/dc826519-ee1a-4587-845c-d24038d284fe/Photolazor3.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/43abd231-292f-4591-b85b-7a0a8025cebd/omgbush.jpg https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/165/07277f7c-0a1f-48b4-8170-b33ccdfdbb7a/UGGOFUNNIED-1.jpg Page 6 of the original LMAO Pics also features another milestone: the first user ever to make a repost, get called on it, and then get mad: https://i.imgur.com/x1vnUH1.png https://i.imgur.com/Xvx47gf.png The original LMAO pictures thread ran for a grand total of 176 pages over the space of 11 months, before it was locked. But its legacy lived on. Although many of the oldest LMAO Pics threads have now been archived and are unavailable on the live forums, a search for "lmao pics" still turns up more than 200 threads. The earliest one currently available on Newpunch is "LMAO Pics Thread Unlucky Version 13", which ran for only a few days in July 2009. A glance at page 1 of that thread shows that although Facepunch has changed a lot over the past nine years, many of the problems that we face today are not all that different from those of our ancestors: The rate of posting in LMAO Pics at this time was so high that the thread lasted just three days before it was auto-locked at 1000 posts. But how would those early LMAO Pics fare in today's more refined meme environment? A few days ago, I decided to conduct an experiment by inserting the first ever LMAO Pic directly into the latest thread, with no context. What happened next will shock you: https://i.imgur.com/KzSgFfA.jpg Despite this image being the genesis of the entire LMAO Pics legacy, it was roundly rejected by the memebois of today. I took this as clear evidence that memeing had moved on since 2006, and that the memes of yesteryear would no longer satisfy a sophisticated, modern-day audience. However, the next day I decided to conduct one more experiment. This one shook me to my very core: https://i.imgur.com/oqjgbGM.jpg This image, described by LMAO Pics V1 posters as 'the best image on the internet', still has staying power in 2018. Despite all that has happened since then, we still share one commonality with those early posters who ventured out into Fast Threads so many years ago: we feel immense sympathy for a bucketless walrus.
I wonder if modern memes will age as badly as those ones did
So we're part of a 12 year old tradition of shitposting, glad I could be apart of it.
Beautiful thread. Facepunch without LMAO Pics is a scary thing to think about.
I think they'll fare even worse tbh, too many layers of irony and context/internal referencing to other memes that will make them just seem like noise. How sad is it that I even have an opinion on this...
some of them are almost literally just noise example https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/286627994598899723/460638168396595220/35130841_1677702758995062_704865675859984384_n.png
Digging through all the old LMAO pics to harvest images that aren't dead and still funny is a worthy time investment. If you are the kind who posts, at least, instead of just lurking.
memes like Loss just simply doesn't work when you don't know how the thing started.
oh god i remember that thread... https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/134/46ad7325-65a3-49da-8c11-8d2d08fced30/image.png
when i first joined fp when i was 13 i refused to open lmao pics because i thought internet abbreviations like lmao were stupid
I saw the creation of the first lmao pics and only joined when its subforum was locked to visitors.
Remember when rage comics got hundreds of funnies.

I can't talk for others, but that's not why I rated it disagree. In my case I felt it meant more like "haha yeah, feeling no sympathy for him" or "that situation's a clusterfuck, don't want any of that". It's like those cursed images, people don't think it's stupid, just disagreeable/foul. Otherwise I'd have rated it dumb. idk maybe it's just me
It's also not the first time it's been reposted due to being the first-ever LMAO pic, and I think a lot of thread regulars are aware of it. And as for the second one, I honestly would bet that most of the positive ratings are ironic because it's an extremely old meme that everyone has seen a million times, the whole "I has" talk is about as outdated as leet speak but people still find some ironic humor in it due to nostalgia, or the effect of it being SO outdated that it becomes funny again.
Around which LMAO pics did this image start being a thing? https://i.imgur.com/c2ExZ.jpg Could've sworn it couldn't be more than two years ago.
I knew something was up when walrus bucket was posted recently. I figured you were just taking a nostalgic stroll through ancient FP, but never expected something like this. Good thread. Brings me back to when I got caught looking at an image someone posted, of a full-body costume made of dicks.
There was another thread called “world’s best image macro” or something when people still called them that. I can’t even remember what was significant about it but it ended up being a similar thread from what I can remember.
I knew you were trying something funny, Smurfy. I knew where your images came from and I suspected something. Nothing escapes Loadingue, the Lord of LMAO Pics. Yet it is not as a Lord, but as a servant, that I bend my knee and pay my respects to the first LMAO Pics Thread. May it rest as a vestige of past humor, and shine as a beacon of guidance.
The bucket one... it has been my wallpaper on my second account, it was like back in 2011, brings back the memories. I still find it kind of funny, I regret nothing.
I look back at all of the old memes and i think that they're terrible. Then i look at the new memes and then i like the old memes a whole lot more.
BTW, I'll give a diamond to anyone who can find a legit Loss in the original LMAO Pics thread. I tried for a good while
I miss lolcats.
Page 212 is the closest I can find, and it's an unbeliable reach https://web.archive.org/web/20110808141004im_/http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c82/cegrocks/1071358018863.jpg Bottom right image, starting with the poster on the left with the green flick background
Can anyone find the mass mod shitposting spree?
what about the guy fieri mass banning
I know Austin Powers posting was banned in SH, but was there a similar ban in LMAO pics at some point or am I wrong?
someone posted http://i0.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/061/920/7a4.gif and then the entire page did it and everyone doing it got banned
