Didn’t he just sanction them a few days ago, though?
North Korea is never going to give up its nukes. The only thing that Trump has accomplished is showing the world that their strategy was completely successful. This will lead to the opposite of denuclearization.
North Koreans must be confused as fuck, decades of anti-US propaganda has conceded to "Eh, they're alright" in the space of a few weeks. Something tells me it won't last, unfortunately.
Or maybe enough people already thought it was bullshit already.
North Korea is never going to give up its nukes, which is why it's so important to deescalate tensions so they aren't provoked into using them. If Trump doesn't totally sour this move (and it's a coin flip either way) then it'll be one of the few policy items I'll actually give him credit for. Go talk to some South Koreans sometime, you'll find most of them are pretty happy with the fact that as a result of this summit, they're less likely to die in nuclear fire provoked by our deranged president.
They'll be back to the usual saber rattling within a year or two.
Maybe but you really need remember that ever since they signed effective declaration since this April, They going little less likely can't go back their status quo anymore and had to forced of doing this in first place.
why do people act like this is some historic thing, north korea has been going back and forth on nukes ever few years.
I don't even know anymore
Because there something make Kim suddenly give up to South Korea and United States. And this is first time since Korean War ended that declaration is something related to end this neverending war.
Again, As I said to other guy, North Korea is seemly have forced itself to give up their personal status quo to likely getting (very likely) sanctions off them.
And that's all it is: saber rattling, which should be met with the cold shoulder and not with a 160 char message threatening nuclear annihilation by our commander-in-chief.
The USSR was never going to give up their nuclear weapons either, but we found (temporary) peace with them and deescalated the Cold War. Sometimes it's not always about killing the person taking the hostages, but convincing them to let them go and talking things out instead of just going right for bloodbath. Sure, North Korea might have nuclear weapons, but that won't matter as much if we aren't enemies with them.
Not face-to-face at the DMZ, no.
But face-to-face? Yes.

Damn, I was looking forward to it :/
Yea not previous two leaders (Including Kim prior to this) ever since Korean War never step one of these, instead South Korean president visit Pyongyang to do first and second Inter-Korean summits on smaller issues like Family separations since 1953.
That was before until April 2018 with Kim has unexpected surrender to both SK and US. After that he visit Joint Security Area (where one small part of DMZ is at standing) to meet current SK president Moon with two big issues that could fix state with Korean conflict.
