The number of migrants dying from extreme heat on the U.S.-Mexico border rose 55 percent in the past nine months after an increase in unaccompanied children and families trying to enter the United States illegally, the U.S. government said on Monday.
my opinion: if you didn't try to enter illegally, you wouldn't have been cooped up, would ya?
also my opinion: why aren't gov. officials being held accountable. least they could do is improve conditions for detainees on the border
diagnosis: both parties (illegals/government) share blame
Actually no joke trying to cross the border just seems dumb but living in Mexico wouldn't make me too thrilled either
Arizona is pretty noteworthy for this type of thing. From what I'm aware of, the bodies are usually found by horseriders and joggers. You also gotta remember that this is bodies that are found.
Most of the time, the bodies are buried in shallow graves or the person just has their body covered with rocks to protect against scavengers. Shit is mental.
Yeah, because they don't have any reason to risk their lives. If getting across legally was easy, they'd be doing it
This whole "both sides are guilty" mantra doesn't seem particularly convincing when the people of one of those sides are dying.
Many people fleeing Mexico are fleeing imminent danger from cartels, whether it be from being specifically pursued by them or from being caught in the crossfire of cartel warfare. The American asylum system involves being detained, and immigration is too slow to be remotely safe during the meantime. It's no wonder they're taking a calculated risk and trying the fast but risky way of getting to safety.
Worth also mentioning that many people trying to cross into the United States aren't just Mexicans, but Central and South Americans who are fleeing not only drugs and the cartels that come with them, but also corrupt governments and plain old natural disasters.
It's pretty shitty to say both sides are to blame when one side is crossing hundreds of miles of rugged terrain, constantly dogged by violence and human trafficking, at the mere chance at survival.
Entering the US to seek asylum isn't illegal no matter how many bold italics you use.
tbh if shit is so bad that people are risking going through america's border patrol and ice then somebody, probably an actually competent UN-run mission, has to step in.
calm down, wickedplayer.
Border patrol have been caught vandalizing water stations so I'm not really surprised there are more deaths

Why would you blame someone for trying to cross the border when their politicians are getting shot left and right, children are being killed at the expense of local officials, the ever so obvious Cartel wars, Farmers being forced to grow drugs instead of sustenance and killed if they don't, Education is piss poor and racketeering has gotten so bad you can't start a business without everyone trying to rob you of it. It is quite literally mad max down there.
So I have to ask you: why are you blaming the victims like a r/tf2 moderator would?
Thats what happens when you hire anyone to join the force. There's been ex fellons on the border patrol roster before.
I really hate the "now if they were just legal..." argument because (and I can't say it about you, in particular) people will gladly do illegal things and abuse the system, when it suits them. They'll wink and nod when business owners pay off health inspectors and try to dodge federal inspectors to make sure payroll is in order. They'll say "hah, good on you" when someone brags about getting out of a speeding ticket because they know someone with influence. They're do everything they can to get their way in the system, and break whatever law they can get away with and then piss and moan when immigrants just want to live and can't exactly jump through all of the hoops.
War on drugs fuels cartels, cartels make Mexico a hellhole, detain or leave to die immigrants.
Some of these people didn't enter illegally, people have been showing up at the border checkpoints to request asylum which is the legal way to do it and they are still being detained and seperated, the officials stopped caring about the legality of things a long time ago, this is a concentrated effort to demoralize people and deter them from even coming close to our borders. The big thing about the usa is for the longest time as much as we've treated immigrants like second class people we at least allow them their human rights and due process, the idea that this is no longer a guarantee is probably just as effective as a fucking wall.,
