MTV is rebooting Daria, Æon Flux and the Real World - Film, Television and Music

MTV has launched a new production unit, MTV Studios — and with it put in the works a batch of new shows and revivals of properties from the Viacom-owned cable channel’s extensive content library. Among the initial MTV Studios slate is a new iteration of the animated series “Daria” from “Inside Amy Schumer” writer Grace Edwards; “Teen Wolf” creator Jeff Davis’s reimagining of sci-fi animated series “Aeon Flux” with fellow exec producer Gale Anne Hurd; a revival with Bunim/Murray Productions of reality series “The Real World”; and a new version of unscripted series “Made.” Also in the works are two new reality shows — “The Valley,” a coming of age docuseries in the vein of “The Hills” and “Siesta Key,” which follows a group of young friends in Nogales, Arizona; and “MTV’s Straight Up Ghosted,” in which young people attempt to confront lost friends, romantic partners, and family members about being ghosted. “MTV has the biggest collection of hit youth franchises that spans more than three decades of content and over 200 titles, part of which have fueled our resurgence,” said Chris McCarthy, president of MTV. “With MTV Studios, we are for the first time ever opening up this vault beyond our own platforms to reimagine the franchises with new partners.” https://variety.com/2018/tv/news/mtv-studio-daria-real-world-aeon-flux-1202853249/ Titled Daria and Jodie, the reboot will focus on both Daria Morgendorffer and her friend Jodie Landon, Rolling Stone reports. https://www.news.com.au/entertainment/tv/flashback/mtv-confirms-daria-reboot/news-story/8f80f21a258de24efc35b27a9240e7cc I never saw the Real Word so I have no clue how that will go. Æon Flux could work with the original guy do it. Daria will be a disaster though. There's some speculation already that the inclusion of Jodie (who wasn't exactly Daria's friend in the series) is some sort of hamfisted attempt to make the series more black. Probably made worse by MTV's last horrible attempts to discuss race relations.

Considering they cancelled Good Vibes and Beavis and Butthead after both shows put in the best ratings MTV had in almost two decades, I think I'll file this one under "what fuck ever".

I think Daria is timeless so I am glad to see it coming back. I hope it's good, for the love of god be good.

As per above, they did bring it back, got the best ratings they'd had in about fifteen eyars and cancelled it for not being "of MTV culture" aka PC faux tolerant drama queens complaining about hard it is to be a millenial/post millenial living of your parents money in the year _____; exec responsible for cancelling ti is the same exec responsible for greenlighting "Dear White People".
