Authorities say the 31-year-old woman walked into the park on crutches on June 19 and read a statement about homelessness and mental health issues. Moments later, she set herself on fire. Some bystanders attempted to put the fire out, though Sagal later died from injuries. “We asked them why they’d done it,” one witness, Peter Stratacos, told Oregon Live. “They said it was because they were homeless and they didn’t know what else to do.” Sagal was best known for her horror game “Homesick,” which follows the story of a woman searching for her friends inside the house where her family was murdered. She also made headlines in 2013 when she ran an Indiegogo campaign that was ostensibly for metal poisoning treatment. But, according to Eurogamer, the money was instead used for gender alteration surgery. Sagal’s friends tell Oregon Live she had physical difficulties and struggled with mental illness for many years. They also said she was the target of a persistent online bullying campaign by Kiwi Farms, which the New Yorker once described as “the web’s biggest community of stalkers” that “specializes in harassing people they perceive as being mentally ill or sexually deviant in some way.” The group allegedly began harassing Sagal on various social media platforms after the Indiegogo campaign. “One factor that made it much harder for her to get help was that whenever she talked about suicide [Kiwi Farms] would report her Facebook page and get it locked down,” Sagal’s friend, AJ Luxton, told Oregon Live. “This had happened multiple times in the month prior to her death.” “She was one of the most brilliant, and tortured artists I have ever known,” said her friend Jasmine Barlow.

I dont think Kiwi Farms is the reason, not saying theyre blameless but she has had long term mental illness, that plays a bigger part than some neckbeard doxxing.

to be fair, if you're constantly getting your (ostensibly personal) facebook page getting taken down when you try to reach out on top of being homeless, wouldn't you feel like you really didn't have much to live for? Maybe it's not "the" reason, but it could be *one of* many reasons. also, it doesn't really say anywhere in the article that it's kiwi farm's fault. it just says that she was bullied by kiwi farms (i dont even know what kiwi farms is) and that she was a target of repeated harassment.

Definitely didn't help having stalkers harassing to this extend. Usually people don't put themselves on fire if they want to die. This was most likely a way to be seen and heard. Desperation and the feeling of being forcefully muted might be the reason for this kind of suicide. I'd say they did more than enough to be included as a reason. Maybe not for the person ending up committing suicide but the method used.

Would that be an accurate statement to make? Like, could some of the aftereffects have somehow led to this? I really wasn't "around" for the vast majority of GG so I honestly don't know.

I don't think they're back, it sounds like the Kiwifarms thing happened a long time ago. Possible the people who were harassing her didn't stop when the site went down though.

They aren't and have never been affiliated. The closest link they have is Brianna Wu was targeted by Kiwi Farms at one point, and that's a pretty loose link. They hate everyone. That and KiwiFarms basically is what a lot of people want you to think GG is. They hate each other, or at least GG hates them.

Well the head of KiwiFarms is part of the alt-right, and they have some overlap with encyclopedia dramatica. But in general they're unaffiliated groups that just happen to have similarities, I'm not sure if Ms. Sagal was ever a common target between the two. Actually one of the most popular targets on KF is British Neo-Nazi Mike Coombs.

That's a huge stretch but this time I can actually see where those people are coming from. She was a minor gamergate "celebrity" for the lack of a better word and that probably was what brought her to the attention of places like kiwifarms. For a while there may have even been some bullies whose sole motivation was the fact that she was against gamergate. I'm not so sure if gamergate mattered to any of them in the end, though.

searching chloe sagal on /r/kia there are five posts 3 are zero points, one is about journos blaming the suicide on them, and another is about Brianna Wu attacking her. and two of the posts are from 3 years ago suggesting someone needs to find her real help because she might actually kill herself. The single post that seems to be negative is loaded with comments questioning "Who are they and what do they have to do with us".
