A blatant lack of security... A door barricade bars idea.

I think they need to add something to the game to make metal doors stronger... An upgrade of sorts...
My idea is that you should be able to place "door barricade bars" like the kind they used to use on castle gates and fortified rooms in the old times. They only work when someone is inside and basically make the door close to the strength of the wall it is connected to.
So for example, if I have a metal door on a metal door frame I could place metal barricade bars behind it to make the door more secure while I'm inside. When I leave the door would return to normal strength but when I'm inside I could put the bar on and lock the door increasing the strength dramatically.
This would deter offline raiding!
We all know how sad people are when it comes to raiding doing it only when they are offline most of the time. Raiding would then need to be done when players exit their base OR use a lot more planning and a bit more resources to do the offline raid...
This idea is meant to suggest a change in game that makes the game more fun and exciting for the majority of people who own it AND make it even harder for the more hardcore players (who is truly the most hardcore now?)
----------------------------
off topic I might post this is another thread though... BUT it actually goes hand in hand with this post so I'll just leave it here since if all of this changed together the game might be really fun and interesting again.
Also along with this change I think that a major change to blue print and base wipes should also be made. Wipes should only occur on a per player basis. If a player does not log in for over 30 days their blue prints should get wiped! A players base should never get wiped since there is now an upkeep system... So lets say a player has all blue prints and logs out for 29 days... His base would most likely have disappeared unless it was really small but he would still have his blue prints. That is the way it should be imo. This would change the game for the better imo. Sure there would be more of a threat from big clans that play all the time but they cant hold down everyone for ever and that's what makes a game great.
A false assumption, The raiders will simply go through the walls. If you want a stronger base do several "layers" of doors into your base and use ladder hatches instead of stairs.
The hardcore players will have enough experience to ignore the doors (as above).
To hard to implement on a player by player basis. Far easier for the devs and servers to do it the way it is now.
Anyone who leaves a server for 29 days and then comes back on with all their blueprints after a bp wipe would have an advantage over the majority of players who have played most of the month,
What is the point if you have already posted it here ?.
Barricading doors overnight so that they equal the strength of walls? Sounds good to me. A barricaded sheet door should be as strong as a stone, and a barricaded armored as strong as sheet walls. Actually a really great suggestion, doors are -always- the weak point through a base, and not everybody likes having tunnels of doors. This way, it'd cost you some extra resources, but beef up base security. Reinforced doors would have to have their reinforcements removed to be opened/closed, so while online, people wouldn't reinforce them.
But how would the poor raiders be able to predict the required amount of satchels etc they'll need to succesfully raid your base and not fall into tears and tantrums?!?
smh, why is everyone trying to make it hard for raiders? Its so unfair on them. Its undoing all the hard work by facepunch of nerfing bases with upkeep and build 3.2
I'm glad I got some positive responses thanks a lot guys.
I forgot to mention that, like an old style barricade, if you are on the side with the barricade you can just remove it (as a raider). Damaging a door from the back side would do damage like there is no barricade. So essentially this is going to "deter" not "completely prevent" raids on smaller bases... Instead of having 9 metal doors and with some of the walls (AND ROOFS/ FOUNDATIONS) of the door tunnels being metal you could just skip all of that and have a barricaded metal door on a metal door frame so when you are off line they would have to blow through a metal wall no matter what.
It would make base building a lot less retarded and more realistic... Something Thraag1 will never understand... :X
use garage doors
I dont know how many bases you have built but I am up in the thousands, It is my main reason for playing the game, I have built all types of bases, Water, Mountain peak, Inside caves (old style) , On icebergs etc, When experimental first came out you would have to build 5 -10 bases a day, The longest one lasted was half a day, So I know all about
building bases and what it takes to raid them.
And this is a game it is not real .
The bases I build are always completely armourd, I dont use stairs I use ladder hatches,
The devs have always made it easier for the raiders by adjusting wall/door/foundation health and introducing twig raiding,
The only thing retarded about buildings is the way people build them, You propose " Instead of having 9 metal doors and with some of the walls (AND ROOFS/ FOUNDATIONS) of the door tunnels being metal you could just skip all of
that and have a barricaded metal door on a metal door frame so when you are off line they would have to blow through a metal wall no matter what. ", In what way is that supposed to be better ?
Dear Thraag1, It would make it better by reducing the resources, time, and effort to make your base worth a shit...
From my experiments in game and on the program FORTIFY I've come to the conclusion that... Base building on this game is soooo done... I refuse to do it and for that reason I refuse to play it. You literally have to go into fortify, online rust wikis, do testing, ect just to figure out what the best way to build a secure 2x1 metal base is. Best being the cheapest way without sacrificing any security. So basically if you don't have lvl 1, lvl 2, lvl 3 work benches (costing over 1500 scrap) and you ALSO don't have a an armored door bp (750 scrap) and lots of gears / HQ to make them...
You are looking at 9 metal doors In a hallway of triangle foundations and lets not forget the half wall dbl roofs needed since roofs are weaker than walls.
In all honesty the base building thing is pretty fun to figure out and actually fully understand what needs to be done BUT when you actually go to make something as simple as a 2x1 metal base I find myself completely loosing interest in this game.
If I could just make a metal box and have one metal door on it I would be golden. I would feel like less of a loser for playing this game. a nerd. I refuse to be a nerd.
Cut down a 9 door hallway of shit and this game becomes more realistic and awesome.
Your argument about this being just a game is pretty valid but does the fact that this game is "just a game" mean that we should have be complacent with this blatant inability to secure a base? (without putting tons of effort into it? like WAY to much effort and inconvenience).
This is RUST , Stop comparing it to other games
You have to play the game to learn how to do things , Not read other peoples posts and watch youtube , That way you
learn. I dont build a 2x1 metal base , That is for noobs.
If you wont spend the time gathering a looting trash piles for the material you need you wont get anywhere at all,
No I am not,
My base is usually a 6x6 foundation ,All blocks are enclosed except for the centre one which has a ladder hatch to the first floor. that floor is a repeat of the ground floor, The second floor contains storage but the outer line of blocks is solid all the way around leaving 12 empty blocks to use. The third floor is a copy of the second floor.

On this base i have left two blocks empty so that i can use a temp twig stair to reach ladder hatch. There is no twig raiding on the server i play on. this is the centre of the 4th floor of a 6x6x6 base.the 1st, 5th and sixth are the same/except
there is no ladder hatch 5-6th floor
Look, Thraag, if you're going to post in a thread like this, don't post images from an obviously insanely modded server lmao. Speak in Vanilla terms.
READ THE FORUM TITLE "ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH RUST"
IF the Moderators tell me not to post I will stop, IF You dont like what I post . Live with it, There are twice as many
players who play on modded than play on Vanilla and nearly three times as many that use community servers.
And every one of those players is entitled to use these forums
last time i checked garage doors were 2 times better than normal sheet metal doors, but i guess you're just new to the game so you're not aware of it.
Last time I checked they were very close to the same as a sheet metal door. Garage doors are extremely vulnerable to explosives just like sheet metal. There is no point to use them and they are obviously a pain in the ass / unrealistic.
It's like talking to a wall, i don't expect a smart answer from it. You're clearly inexperienced and probably just bought the game, but i guess i will try.
Normal sheet metal door is 63-64 explosive ammo to go through, garage door is 150 explosive ammo. See how stupid you are? You're clearly incapable of adapting to the game and i can assure that Facepunch won't be crying after a bitch like you.
explosive ammo... no one in their right mind is going to use that over satchels… no tell me how many satchels to break one of each. genius.
Trust me I'm already left. This game is autistic made for autistic people.
He's a genius, who wouldn't want to use a slow and unreliable raiding method! Looks like you're the type of guy to never get his hands on explosive ammo, anyone would rather use explosive ammo over satchels.
From Reddit
Garage doors VS Sheet metal doors.
-Sheet metal door: (250hp) takes 70DMG from 1 satchel charge. - destroyed by 1 c4. - takes 220DMG from rocket.
-Garage
door: (600hp) - takes 131DMG from 1 satchel charge (takes 87% more
damage) - destroyed by 1 c4. - takes 220DMG from rocket.
conclusion:
Garage doors cost twice as much metal fragments and 2 gears. so sheet
metal doors are still way better for the cost, but garage doors are just
slightly stronger leaving 76hp (equal to 41hp at metal door) after 4
satchels.
Insults are the weapons of those that are not smart enough to use intelligence,
Goodbye and good riddance.
that's an old thread on reddit, they changed garage door a while ago so it costs 9 satchels,2c4 or 3 rockets to get through.

Thanks, didnt know it had been updated , But as you said originally it is a lot stronger than metal doors, Now more so.
Explosive ammo is more expensive and requires more inventory space to be used. It brakes your guns quickly... Explosive ammo is only good if you have a ton of resources and don't mind wasting your shit... I will admit that explosive ammo through a silencer would be awesome but like I said its to expensive. Satchels are cheapest... Bean cans are awesome too btw.
In order for this to work there would need to be a timer on the door bar, which doesn't make much sense, the reason a door bar is needed is because the person being raided could just put the bar down while they're inside and retreat to the core of their base
Yeah I was thinking about this in comparison to DarkRP servers on Garrys mod. IN all of the rules there is usually a max amount of fading doors allowed. This would basically be like a fading door because if its engaged it becomes a wall basically. So maybe there needs to be a rule for it to work like... If can only be placed once per layer of the base, the door frame needs a certain amount of stability... or maybe even make the stability of the door frame play into the benefit of the barricade.
I think the only thing that should be changed should be the staircase leading up to a door a block higher.
I feel like you shouldn't be posting here, because everything you say is just so wrong.

If your empty nutshell didn't realize anything from that link, i can hold your hand and explain. It costs around 790 gunpowder to go through a normal sheet metal door with explosive ammo and guess what, going through with satchels would cost 960 gunpowder. There is literally nothing that makes satchel charges better than explosive ammo. Cherry on top of the cake is going to be the fact that explosive ammo has splash damage and satchel charge doesn't.
Are you guys still on about the explosive ammo? Wow I feel like you guys DONT EVEN PLAY REAL RUST! GO THE HELL AWAY AND PLAY YOUR MODDED GAME AND KEEP ON THINKING THIS WAY! GO on a Vanilla server and try to use explosive ammo you will be broke and your guns will be broke too.
First of all i play on eu medium which is official vanilla server (if you're not aware). With all these hours i have i wouldn't say something i don't know. I can tell that you play on community servers or modded servers because you absolutely have no idea what you're talking about. 32x10+32x40 is 1600 sulfur which makes 800 gp in total (reason i do it 32 times is because you get 2 bullets if you craft it once, just wanted to let you know because it looks like you have never used explosive ammo). Everyone knows that to go through sheet metal door you need 4 satchels=960 gunpowder.
I prefer explosive ammo over rockets, because rockets just attract clans. If you're not aware, you can use a repair bench to fix broken weapons. That's cool right, you probably like learning something new everyday.
No one honestly gives a shit. You are obviously just trying to make it look like you know this game better than I do because you don't like the idea of people being able to barricade themselves inside of their base... It's obvious man and its sad... You guys are so effed in the head lol...
No one in their right mind would play this game more than a couple of wipes unless they lived next to one of their server locations which are placed in the most autistic location btw...
Oh and you're still wrong about the explosive ammo. so suck my girth.
Can you kids stop arguing, the fourms are a place for debate and ideas, make this a discussion not a toxic concentration.
Who are you ? , I dont see "moderator" in your title anywhere ?. No one needs your permission or approval to post
here do they ?
One way to resolve it is for you to post yours hours in the game and joonas could do the same, A steam page
showing hours would do it , I have a feeling that only someone with a lack of time in the game would not be willing
to participate.
I have already posted mine in another thread (now 15860)
