Cycling thread! Assuming I'm not the only cyclist here. Post your bikes, rides you've done, anything related to cycling, really.
I don't really know what to put in the OP, suggestions welcome.
What do you use to record your rides like this?
Gonna update this post with pictures of my bike soon.
Strava. It's pretty nice, shows you your current speed as well as segments around the area. It automatically compares your efforts to your previous best, though when it suddenly decides you're doing an effort that should be recorded it drops the current speedometer.
Man. Lately I've been shopping for a new bike since my last one was stolen. I was a bit stupid and used one of those braided cord locks instead of a U-lock. Punks just cut it while I was away for 2 hours teaching a class. It was an orange Origami Crane 7 folding bike. I actually had two of them, one was mine which I beat to hell over a couple of years due to inexperience with maintaining bikes, and the other that got stolen was my late wife's bike, which sucks because it had a lot of sentimental value to me, but fuck it, that's life and I gotta move on and find a new one.
I'm pretty glad I beat up my first Origami though, because I learned a fuck ton about good bike maintenance, and now I know my way around a bike decently well to keep it in relatively good shape. This is the bike I'm currently considering: Bicicleta 20 Phoenix Plegable Negra/roja It's too bad Origami is just a small company that doesn't do international shipping. Paul, the owner is a great guy and helped me out a ton with the bikes I got from him. Maybe next time I visit my family in the States I could get another one.
Really my only concern with a bike is that it's a foldable since that makes apartment life a bit easier, it has a rear luggage rack, and 20" sized wheels compared to some foldable's that have 16".

Got it all assembled. The frame joint was initially a little stiff, but some lubricant helped. I'm not a huge fan of a red/black color scheme, but I can't complain for the price I paid, especially considering it's pretty solidly built and very similar to my previous foldable.
How do foldables ride? I'm a big fan of big wheels and cushy frames, those things look p. painful and slow
Those were my initial thoughts as well. Before my last one I rode exclusively mountain bikes, but after riding them I was surprised at how nice they can be. Obviously it's more comfortable if you get a foldable with shocks, however my last one didn't and it still felt fine to ride on streets with occasional bumps and small holes. The speed isn't bad either. I'm not a slow rider and I can pass most people on my way to work just fine, but if there are other riders on bigger bikes that ride like me then naturally they can pass me. I should try tracking my speed sometime to post.
My ride is currently this delicious brown on one 456

But I have literally just picked up a new Cotic BFE 26 frame to build up, which should be beautiful

Just fixed the steer, looks like they didn't tighten it good in the factory. Though my habit of taking it to the dirt roads probably didn't help. It does get me places like the very wobbly, rotting and dirty hunter tower thingy with a nice view of Pančevo (and the graveyard in Vinča lol) back in May. Anyway i should download something that records what route i took and measures the distance and shit and elevation so i can look at it as a map

Strava does that pretty well tbh
I'm gonna add that to the OP tbh
So I've got a new job and a new apartment, and I've specifically chosen it so that I can get to work by bike in 15 minutes or less (google says it'll be 10 minutes).
post this when you're done
I'm about to put on bar tape for the first time myself, hope I don't fuck it up lmao
Everything went better than expected

I've always liked cycling. I did it all the time when I was a kid, but I haven't owned a bike for 10 years now. I wanted to get back into it so I bought an electric fat bike which hopefully will arrive right after next weekend.
Neighborhood rental shop bought a few of these and hardly rented them out (low bookings & taking up space on their racks). I had called them a few months prior to see if they were getting rid of any old bikes, and they reached back out asking if I would be interested in taking one of these off their hands for a pretty good discount.

This whole sub section doesn't seem very popular. Too bad, I'd love to see a dedicated e-bike thread
3 consecutive days, with my gear. I've got a whole 2 weeks left and I've hit my endurance goal. Feeling great about my upcoming trip!

I've been really dumb as of late with the foldable. I had the seat a bit too low, which was naturally making it more difficult to ride, and I kept wondering why. Lo and behold I raise the seat a bit and it was a breeze.
This isn't very impressive I'm sure, but it's from my commute home from work today which is mostly at a slight decline. I do like this Strata thing, I'll try to keep using it since I'm gonna start riding my bike to work daily again.

Doing better than me on the weekend mate, although this was XC riding. First rain we've had in 6 weeks so I thought I'd ride... everything was slippery and I stacked it repeatedly both uphill and downhill
I've had some bad luck in rain as well. Rear-ended a taxi that suddenly pulled in front of me to drop off a passenger on a slick road, and I also skidded and fell on my ebike when taking a sharp turn last year. It's definitely taught me to be more careful.
Where in UK do you go cycling mate? Going to start hitting up Surrey Hills this weekend to see how it is.
I'm midlands based, so it's mainly Peak District natural trails, this weekend I was at cannock chase and probably my favourite trail centre having sampled most of them in England has got to be Whinlatter.
Finished building my Ragley BluePig the other day, pretty chuffed with it so far ;)

Started riding this bike a couple months ago after my dad found it.

Tires are missing cause I took them off for the newer, better bike my dad found last week:

Scuffed as hell cause whoever owned it before spray-painted the rims and at least parts of the frame black, but it rides a lot better than the old one.
Oh!
The sweet Ragley build (hope wheels are the best) reminds me I made a start on my Bfe this weekend!
It isn't done yet, I need to chop the steerer tube once I've found a length I'm happy with and when I took my old seat post out I found it was distinctly banana shaped, so I need a new one and still to do is the rear mech cabling and suspension set up but it's nearly there!

the hanger on my roadbike snapped is it easy to realign the gears or is it more of a shop job?
Had an altercation on my bike with some dumb kid on a BMX earlier. He was doing wheelies and nearly ran the fuck in to me so I yelled some shit and flipped him off and he started chasing after me
He eventually pulled up doing another dumbass wheelie and kicked my front brake out (this was an impressive move as he remained on his bike) but upon us dismounting he didn't seem to want to start a fight. We didn't even argue, he just asked me why I flipped him off and I explained to him that he very clearly nearly dropped me off my bike and then proceeded to get violent. He fixed up my front brake a bit (not that great) but didn't know what he was doing (and neither did I to be fair, I've only started cycling in the past month).
Is there any possibility I could be wrong about this situation? I just wonder if I should've stopped or turned off if he was doing fucking wheelies down the street. I felt within my right to be angry.
Did he actually nearly crash into you or did he just do a wheelie near you
I rode past as he jumped up in to a wheelie and he lost control, veering in to my path
