"And so, whether you are here to stay, or passing through on your way to parts unknown - welcome to Beijing. It's safer here."
C'mon man, this is China we're talking about:

It feels like China, Russia, and the US are in a secret competition to see who can become the most dystopian hellscape.
don't forget the UK and their spoon licenses
Don't forget us. We're starting to get surveillance drones up in towns.
Oh come on, like that's anywhere close
ok what about the "meme ban"
Wonder what animal they'll turn into spies next.

Yeah but that problem is mostly cancelled out by the current lack of police funding. They don't have the resources to review the tapes.
When I leave my block of flats I'm immediately on camera from 5 different angles, we have had everything from drug deals, vandalism, and even a stabbing right outside the block- nothing ever got done about any of it. CCTV doesn't mean shit if nobody is watching the footage.
Even if it actually was a meme ban and not just poorly worded copyright law, it's an EU bill so Brexit will cancel it out.
I live in the UK and I have no idea what you're talking about. Care to explain?
A perfect target for drone hunting eagles, and now, Cooper's Hawks.
What really scares me about these is the thought that they may one day equip these kind of drones with X-Ray cameras. The absolute lack of any privacy whatsoever combined with tons of added background ionizing radiation absolutely terrifies me. I really hope we can move away from this kind of invasiveness, as a species.
Why would they use x-ray cameras?
Not sure what benefit that'd give, even more so given the risks involved in shooting your populace with xray radiation.
Though CCTV overuse is an issue in the UK, most of those are privately-owned and not government-operated.
And its probably western companies that are going to sell these to China, what a world we live in.
I would put money on it we've been using things like this in the Middle East for awhile now though.
Why would the powerful ever give up something that gives them more power?
Sorry, but do you even have any idea how x-ray imagery works?
Do you mean infrared cameras?
For the same reason why would you use bird camera drones... to monitor even more? I'm just worried we'll get to the point that politicians will say the radiation is "worth it for our security's sake."
I know how ionizing radiation and needing a sensor/film to imprint upon works yes, but that's not to say that a similar technology that can "see through walls" can't be created in the future that utilizes a similar purpose. X-Rays are just a close approximation for what that tech might be like. I'm just theorizing because the future seems to be heading more and more in a darker direction every day.
Personally, I'd be way more worried about something that tracks absolutely everything you do on the internet/your phone than tech that can see through walls.
Who knows man I mean we didn't think of bird drones and we didn't think of x-ray cameras either.... Really makes u think
Does Skynet count?

TL;DR we were using phone metadata to flag people and drop missiles on them even though metadata doesn’t contain contents or recordings of any communication. Innocent people including a journalist got flagged by the system.
Now imagine that system being repurposed for domestic operations in any country to issue warrants or arrests and you now have an AI controlled Minority Report.
