rumor has it Microsoft was trying the same thing but Phil Spencer still likes physical games.
phil spencer talks quite a bit about streaming and microsoft's goal with it in this interview

It's cause it would kill of piracy completely and give the publishers complete control over the product that these companies want to push streaming. It's pretty much an extension of the whole "games as service" trend.
Companies really need to start choosing whether they want to throttle everyone's internet speeds or force everyone to stream all of their media.
You can't have both! Hopefully...
I hope every attempt at game streaming crashes and burns. Troublesome DRM is bad enough, but straight up not having the game on your system and having to deal with server and connection issues? Fuck that shit.
"Sorry we're experiencing connectivity issues as a result of a DDOS attack, you'll have to try to access your game library later."
"We've decided to raise the subscription price for our services so these games you've been playing for months now arbitrarily cost more."
"Verizon's poorly trained support crews accidentally cut a line that's gonna take a week to fix, so now you can't even play the purely single player game you bought yesterday."
You can have as much as you pay for!
It's going to be happening sooner than you think. The early adapters and adopters might fail, as they usually do, but it's inevitable at this point.
I've streamed games from my home computer to another house before. It wasn't TERRIBLE, definitely playable.
That said, games that rely on fast reaction times like fighters and fps games will never work very well this way.
Fuck game streaming. If I want to own a copy of the game, I will own a copy of a game. I don't want it streamed, I want it with me.
