I discovered a great technique for amazing portrait lighting and proceeded to abuse it for the next few days http://wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/75026c3df6a.jpg http://wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/98f8dfd385e0.jpg http://wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/fdc7e9ad2eb6.jpg http://wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/1cfe3a76dbd9.jpg http://wduwant.com/index_uploads/uploads/fc120cf8c3c7.jpg
Good work, posing is spot-on.
Combination of soldier, environment, equipment, and angles are excellent in all of them.
I feel they all look fantastic, except for the second. It's mostly personal preference, but I think that pure rim/underlighting for faces looks very poor, especially in Source where modern Source (post-Ep2) eyeshaders seem to outright glow, even in shadow. This isn't really criticism of your work, but more just something to keep in mind in future. You can really see in pic #3 what I mean -- the brim of his cap should darken his eyes and only leave faint glints visible, but the whole of his eyeballs are completely visible due to shading issues, therefore the area that surrounds his eyes looks ill-fitting. It's really something that can't be helped by anything other than adding some more overt facial lighting, and it kind of spoils the ability to do 'kubrick stare' style scenes. But again this is mostly a personal preference thing. The second picture's lighting is otherwise fantastic, and the third picture's lighting is actually spot on, it's just a failing of Source that results in that weird vampire eye effect.
It's a foliage pack that Hauptmann only put in discord, I'll ask if I can send the link
