What
I can't help but speculate if trolling has evolved to this?
Frankly, I'm much more puzzled they picked a photo where nobody looks like they want to be there, not even the guy.
From the source:
"While the angle of the photo suggests this is a University of Adelaide image, the image was not supplied by or approved by the University," the University of Adelaide told Australian news website Mamamia.
Yeah, I saw that but it only confused me more. Because that means that whatever ad agency is responsible for the ad picked it. I.e. people who should REALLY know better.
"the ad agency should've known better to have an image with a man talking and women listening to him"
i understand "mansplaining" is a thing but really? any situation in which women are listening to a man is mansplaining?
maybe everyone is being a sane and stable adult, allowing the man to speak his mind about the subject before interjecting and i'm sure he too would be quiet and listen like an adult if one of the women was speaking.
It's about time men learned their place in society, they should not speak unless spoken to
Considering the first post the article cites is from an account called "shitadelaide" I doubt the response they're talking about is entirely genuine.
Look at that brave man, explaining what no one else can.
As a man i feel I'm qualified to explain why this is drawing criticism:
Nobody is smiling at the genius insight the the male is dispensing.
It’s not a picture fit for a university unless it’s a white person sitting on a lawn laughing with their multi-ethnic group of male and female friends.
I was sold a lie. I studied undergrad for five years and I never had that moment
Way to crop out the rest of the advert to completely change the tone and purveyor of the media.

The article even states
The university said it had not supplied or approved the image, which came from an agency of the regional government.
but the headline is
'Mansplaining' advert for University of Adelaide draws criticism
Fucking seriously BBC?
The article says that the man is talking to five silent women, but how do we know that he isn't silent too and is just a non-binary lesbian, demonstrating how how large her new girlfriend's tits are with a gesture?
I wish I was privileged enough to be outraged at this sort of shit
You are, hence the ability to post here
I had that moment, except we were sitting in a cramped hot study room and we were all crying
"Digital blackface"
This poor young man could be explaining the meaning of life, the cure to Cancer and the secret to immortality, but these girls show no ounce of respect or interest.
Disgusting.
In all seriousness, why is this a problem?
When I see this I just see a bunch of College students talking to each other about an Essay or some shit, not Race, Sex, Religion, anything.
It's not and no one genuinely thinks it is, but the BBC wanted to drum up some controversy about fake feminist outrage
Mansplaining, manterrupting and bropriating
I can't help but feel like that whoever's coming up with with these words probably got their ass handed to them in an arguement by a man and haven't gotten over it ever since.
And those people in the west also don't care about being crippled by polio or dying to malaria. Yes, problems are relative, what a stunning revelation.
I hate that monthly episode, enough reruns already.
I actually look forward to the apocalypse.
We've become to comfortable and happy in our day-to-day lives that we have to invent new things to be upset about.
Bring out the bombs. give us real hardship.
This is wrong.
I ain't person from the Privileged middle class, in fact I'd say I ain't anywhere near it.
I give a shit because this shit is dumb and has no place to exist.
This is not a real problem. No one should ever care about this dumb shit
It's funny how all you have to do is rename "acting like a pretentious douchebag" to "mansplaining" and suddenly people become willing to defend it.
Are you white?
Yes
Then it goes without saying that you are quite privileged my friend.
