• Gunheart, anyone?

So I just bought Gunheart. It isn't even on sale or anything, but it looks like a fun shooter where you can see your hands, see other people and mostly shoot bugs things rather than other people. So to me better than stuff like, say, Space Junkies. It's going to be a couple of days before I have the time to really play it so until then: is anyone else here playing it? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHww8UKRUKQ
god damn I wish I had a vive
Looks pretty good, might get it during a sale.
And WMR.
Okay, so, very initial impressions. Plot: pretty cool, actually. You just dies, but you had a decent insurance, you your mind gets uploaded to the cloud. Unfortunately that means you're now owned by a jerky corporation that wants you to pilot a flying robot on a remote planet and shoot bug creatures in the face. On the plus side your robot gets a cape. And possibly a hat. Graphics: pretty good, although a bit repetitive. You have large, nice looking outdoor maps with lots of verticality, the enemies are very detailed and nicely animated creepy bug people that explode into satisfying chunks when you shoot them and you can see your own hands and body. Gameplay: You take jobs at the hub (solo or as a team), then fly around levels full of platforms and wide open spaces and explode bug people. You have a gun in each hand, and if you put your hands together they turn into your heavy weapon. Locomotion is either through teleporting, smooth locomotion or (preferably) both. You can combine zipping around, double jumping and teleportation to really fuck with the bugs. They hate when you do that. Also you can use either/both hands to pull/grab/throw anything at everything. Like exploding barrels. And bug people. You collect cash and loot, which you can then use in the hub to upgrade your rig, weapons, buy new weapons and hats and colors for your rigs. All purchases are in in-game money as far as I can tell. No real cash shop. Social: You can join a team and play with them. You can hang out with your team and see other players in the hub- the Bent Horizon bar. You can emote using a giant foam hand with logos you can change on the go, a balloon gun, a baseball bat, a big floppy fish and a gun that draws with giant colored pixels in the air in 3D. I guess there's voice chat too? I don't know how much actual content there is though, but the game appears to be updated at a decent rate.
Gave the game a shot and I think it kind of blows. The controls are carpal tunnel inducing, the gameplay is repetitive, unrewarding, flat and uninteresting. It's slightly faster than A-Tech Cybernetic but it really feels just like a reskinned version of it.
Sorry. Now I feel bad for getting you to waste your hard earned cash on this.
Refunds are a thing both on Steam and oculus store.
Oh yeah, forgot about that.
if you want to try a demo of this without paying cash, this team made a reskin of it for the ready player one vive game called rise of the gunters
Rise of the Gunters is one of the less terrible free minigames available in the Ready Player One Oasis hub (the best one is still Gauntlet), but it doesn't have all of the elements that I feel make Gunheart so cool. Similar: You can see your hands You can go guns akimbo Floating HUD Nice visuals Only in Gunheart (IIRC): Verticality- lots of height, lots of platforming, lots of stuff to hide in/behind Locomotion - surviving depends on constantly running/jumping/teleporting around the level Ability to grab stuff/tear stuff apart Team play The social hub Graphic violence For comparison: Rise of the Gunters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIa3ZliJzOM Gunheart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp2CYSjixZ8
The game updated and for some reason wanted me to re-play the tutorial and first mission, so I recorded it. Here's some actual gameplay. By a guy with no skills, but still. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xw72Vlr3vp4
