https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/28/iraq-execute-isis-prisoners-revenge-eight-hostage-killings Abadi vowed on Thursday to avenge the deaths of the eight Isis captives, a day after their bodies were found along a highway north of Baghdad. “Our security and military forces will take forceful revenge against these terrorist cells,” he told senior military officials and ministers. “We promise that we will kill or arrest those who committed this crime.” Abadi ordered the immediate execution of “terrorists condemned to death whose sentences have passed the decisive stage”, his office said, referring to convicts whose appeals have been exhausted.
I feel like life in prison for life would probably result in less people seeing them as martyrs. But oh well.
They would have been executed anyway, they just sped up the process so they won't be waiting on the death row forever. It's more than these prisoners deserve, anyway.
Imagine the abject horror for them if their executioners were all women. To my understanding, and please correct me if I'm wrong, being killed by a woman in their eyes dooms their afterlife something fierce.
Not like ISIS command will give a shit that some of their henchmen were killed, and the rank and file will be emboldened by it because that makes them martyrs. It's just posturing for the population, a feel-good measure. If terrorists were afraid of being executed they wouldn't suicide bomb in the first place.
And I know jack shit about iraqi prisons, especially ones for terrorists, but I have a feeling death is practically gonna be mercy.
It does not matter if they get killed by either a man or a woman. Executioner's gender will not affect their afterlife.
This is one of those really dumb myths, not really. Its seen as a disrespect, but nothing religiously significant. Reminds me of when people said "force them to eat bacon!" despite the fact that the Qur'an obviously makes an exception for this.
Do you mean that in the sense that they don't care either way, or are you pointing out that there is no afterlife
Iraqi prisons are well known for shit security and getting a prison break if some islamists attack the prisons. It also gives them a reason to not risk having them getting out and killing more people
Hang em' high. For all the shit they have done too Iraq, I'm completely fine with the people deciding their fate.
They'll care, but it won't affect their reward/punishment.
For once, I agree with Skylynx. These are ISIS. They're like Nazis; subscribers to an ideology so rabid and dangerous that Iraq's doing the world a favor by exterminating them.
Yeah, ISIS was just another breed of outright fascism, rarely would I say a group of people deserve no mercy but ISIS are an exception. They showed no regard for human life at all.
Imprisonment or a trial at the Hague would be better than making these shitheads martyrs tbh.
I am pleasantly surprised noone in this thread demands humane treatment for these jackals.
No but I can't help but get this term out of my head. Blood for the masses.
Ah yes, humane treatment for these guys; new flash they aren't fucking good people. Here's a little list of what they've done that invalids any form of civil or even remotely compassionate treatment they don't deserve. Forcing children to take part in executions. Forcing children to drive VBIEDs into enemy positions Posing at military and police in order to not only kill: police officers, government officials, military leaders but ethnically cleanse Shia's because they'r Shia's Nearly wiping out a small Kurdish Ethnic group known as the Yazidis as well as selling women and little girls as sex slaves Promoting the use of violence and mass slaughter against anyone whom isn't them. IE - Nice,France Radicalization of youths only to send them on suicide missions because they're considered expendable Dozens if not hundreds of video accounts of them brutalizing or execution unarmed combatants. Horrific treatment of prisoners; often using people with compatiable blood types as blood banks for injured fighters They earn no sympathy, they earn no quarter. Anyone who joined them especially after 2014 knew exactly what they were getting into. They deserve nothing.
After reading the article it would seem that this was a just sentence carried out lawfully. They weren't mistreated or otherwise harmed during captivity (at least the article didn't make any mention of it) so I'd say they were treated humanely. Granted, I certainly wouldn't have felt sorry if they had been, but in my opinion it's sends a much stronger message to ISIS. These men didn't die as martyrs, they were executed as the heartless criminals they were. It also sends a good message to the rest of the world that Iraq is capable and willing to deal with ISIS effectively, while also maintaining a professional standard. tl;dr Good riddance to the scumfuck terrorists, and good job to Iraq for dealing with them in a professional manner.
Life in prison would be a better alternative if there wasn't any security issue. That's implying that the death penalty is humane at all though.
Yeah well, if we're going by modern day Christians and the Bible, I don't think any Muslims actually red the Qu'ran to be honest.
