It's a shame but it's understandable. Sometimes you can't change those things without rebuilding from the ground up.
Well, it's not a remake. Just a re-release. At least it has KB/M support.
Engine limitations like that are unfortunate but they make sense, given how far removed we are from the tech is was made for
At the very least it's a slow paced game so it's not too much of a big deal. The game itself being playable and easily acquired on modern systems alone is already quite a boon given the fact the original releases aren't exactly the smoothest games to emulate.
