• Arenanet fires two after Twitter incident
    318 replies, posted
Basically an Arenanet partner responded to a (female) writer's post about why MMORPGs can't have interesting characters and she called the partner sexist, saying he only disagreed with her based on her sex and went on to call others sexist while another Anet member joined her. Recently two of our employees failed to uphold our standards of communicating with players. Their attacks on the community were unacceptable. As a result, they’re no longer with the company. I want to be clear that the statements they made do not reflect the views of ArenaNet at all. As a company we always strive to have a collaborative relationship with the Guild Wars community. We value your input. We make this game for you. Disagreeing with women is sexist now?
God some people are just the most petty motherfuckers. You'd think Twitter was a farm with all the high horses getting knocked down a peg every other month.
What do you mean now? It's been sexist for years according to the most annoying/crazy parts of modern "feminism."
And they say periods dont make women nervous. Coz goddamn. I strongly believe that if you are willing to vent your frustration this hard over Internet to random people, your life must be in shambles
What's up with people censoring people's names like T*talB*scuit and M*mB*t
He didnt even word it in a way that was offensive in any way. Fun thing is the person she went ape shit on was a long standing community member which even has an NPC in the game named after him. She then called him some random asshole and proceeded to say "wow I must have hurt some manfeelings" when people got mad at her. Total cunt.

Wow what a racist
They do it to dodge google alerts.
The way she conducts herself with such sheer arrogance and contempt is baffling. Good thing she is gone.
Being a neurotic mess must get some people off, can't even have a simple game design discussion without somebody shitting their knickers because, holy fuck, somebody as an opinion.
I'd like to know as well, seems absolutely bizarre. Maybe they're trying to imply their name should be considered a curse word because, uh, reasons?
My favourite part about social justice types is how they deem themselves worthy of deciding what is appropriate for other people, to the point of silencing them and telling them how they should feel.
Probably some trigger warning bullshit
I was reading through her twitter feed earlier. What a vile and sad woman, it looked like she was filled with nothing but hate for everything. Glad ArenaNet is rid of such a toxic employee. Hopefully her replacement will make better contributions to the game's story than she did.

I think it's more that she's been working in the games industry for years now and she found it a little condescending to be told how to do her job. https://twitter.com/Delafina777/status/1014553707151699968 I don't think she was that rude but treating total biscuit like that probably means she was on thin ice anyway.
Avoiding it coming up in searches and whatnot to prevent fans of those people from giving a different opinion aka intentionally trying to maintain an echo chamber
I disagree. https://imgur.com/Vsonq35 She called one of the biggest creators, Deroir (someone who has been involved with GW2 for quite some time, the devs even named an NPC after him for the contributions he's made) a rando asshat during their exchange when Deroir was nothing but respectful. It blew up so much that when you search for the term in Google she is literally the very first image that comes up. The second one is another ArenaNet dev that came to her defense and people are speculating was the other person fired. Just look through her feed for a bit. She is toxic.
That's called ignoring criticism, and it's how you become a bad worker deserving of being fired.
conversations are dead if what he did is considered telling her how to do her job.
There seems to be a common trend recently of all reviews or criticism or even comments being taken... way too much to heart? Like, I don't know. The context provided in the thread seemed like... just a fairly pleasant rebuttal/counterpoint. And sure, while the other dev can be like "Here’s a bit of insight that I legitimately hope he reflects on: she never asked for his feedback" - this is Twitter. Social media. Literally just another form of a forum. At-ing someone, or replying to their thread is nowhere near the same as like, walking up to someone and being like "hey your junk sucks" or "I like this, but I think you missed the landing a bit here". She went on an almost Phil-Fish esque meltdown as a response to one dude's rebuttal. I mean, come on. I'd be saying other things if the message was more like "Your shit is garbage" but unless your twitter is actively Protected or you have to be OK'd to read, then I don't see how you can be on that horse.
It's especially bad once you realize that Deroir is like, the lore youtuber for gw2.
I never said she wasn't toxic, just that it was more complex than this But hey, I also had no idea who Deroir is, sorry!
Prevents people from butting in on your tweets by searching names on Twitter. It's the kind of place where people will search for users negatively tweeting about someone just so they can start shit
You're the one starting it when you talk shit about someone
I'm usually one that would agree, but I don't think you understand just how toxic Twitter can be. It rivals 4chan levels of petty about stuff.
I think the worrying part is how one member of the team felt like any criticism was being given purely due to her gender, while the other member said he had never received criticism for his work in GW2. Really shows the bubble some game devs can find themselves in.
True if you're either not on Twitter, or on Twitter but talking about someone not well known, but even mild things like "I don't like Person's content" can have fans knocking on your proverbial door.
