Microids and Anuman Interactive have unveiled the arrival of two Asterix & Obelix video games, developed by the studio OSome. Asterix and Obelix XXL2, a remastered version for new or existing fans of the adventure game, will release on November 29th, whereas Asterix and Obelix XXL3 will come out in 2019.
At the end of 2019, players will be able to discover Asterix and Obelix XXL 3, an original story set in a world that remains faithful to that of the comic books, on all platforms.

There's also mention of multiplayer for the brand new sequel, though no info on whether it's online or not.
And here's the official twitter announcement:

This came out of nowhere. Not from any devs I recognize, but the remaster itself could be a good start, considering it's nigh impossible to play the originals on 64bit windows, at least without a virtual machine it is.
As a kid I had an A&O dvd that was entirely in french, it's actually the only reason I went into french immersion and learned to speak it. I had no idea they made games
Oh my God I loved those games so much when I was young. I always wanted them on Steam.
No remaster for the first XXL though? It wasn't as funny as the second one but it was still good, and had a lot of epic levels.
I also liked Asterix at the Olympic Games, which I considered like XXL 3. Apparently it wasn't well received and wasn't made popular though...
No idea what's up with that. I'm guessing remastering two games and then immediately reversing gears for a brand new sequel would stretch them too much.
And yeah, I remember the Olympic Games as an actual sequel too, but I guess the minigames were a killer for it. Shame, as I recall the main portions of that game being even more refined.
