Hottest day ever recorded by a longshot in a good number of cities down here. Downtown LA's previous record was 94°F, and it's expected to get to 115°F. IIRC my city's hottest ever day was 117°F in the 70s and it's currently 115°F, so we're almost there but not quite.
Flex Alert hasn't been issued yet as we knew this was coming in advance and were prepared for it, but if the heat continues, expect one soon.
Heat wave puts Southern California power grid under pressure
Wildfires started by the weather conditions have killed one so far, probably going to get worse.
Western wildfires
Eat your heart out, UK
I guess I should be glad that I don't live there.
This summer hasnt been very nice to anyone.
Are you just baiting people with this shit? (The last line)
I live around Irvine on the south western part of that map.
My car couldn't take the heat. Not even that the engine overheated or anything, the gauge was in acceptable levels. No, the temperature sensor mcu itself in my '96 cheerokee just decided at a red light "Fuck this, this is too hot, I'm just going to stop everything right here."
I mean to be fair, California was literally sabotaged by the Aussies with their eucalyptus trees that are about as flammable as gasoline. So having a heat of 115-7 is understandable dangerous considering the entire state is lined with miniature tree bombs.
its like 92 in the bayarea

Aussie shitposting strikes again
It's 19C/67F here
Had a similar thing happen to me last summer when my car overheated. Even better was I was able to get it running again, except for the AC
I'm fucking dying
Someone please put me out of my misery
That's what you get, you dirty commies.
It's bantz about the dozens of threads we get every summer about a heatwave in the UK
UK posters can't handle any sort of banter about the weather
it's more that we just get an absurdly high amount of US people who unironically make comments like that, kinda hard to tell when it's serious or not
man one day california is just going to die from one of the impending natural disasters
we're usually like 10% on fire every summer so you're not entirely wrong

September last year
people should stop taking this seriously lol
Just had a power outage a few seconds long here. Surprised we didn't already get a flex alert.
It'd be awfully shitty if we had an extended power outage and weren't able to use our AC right now
I live in the middle of this thing.
help
Jesus Christ, that temperature is actually lethal. 111°F is considered the limit of what the human body can be at and survive; to be in an environment even higher than that, well - I can't imagine you'd last very long.
there's no help for us, friend. We will die together
I'm hearing on Facebook that other people in the city have had their power out for ten minutes and still ongoing. Ruh roh

My mom just messaged me her car was saying it's 120 out. It's only 110 or so up north here, but she's in LA County where shit has most definitely hit the fan. Any other SoCal facepunchers stay hydrated and stay indoors if you can do it.
I feel bad for people in costal regions. It's not as hot, but much more humid. I went outside to hose my dogs off and give them more ice and the 115°F heat is actually pretty bearable thanks to the humidity being relatively low here.
get out while you still can
there's no escaping, our cars would overheat
can confirm, very hot
spent today training someone to do deliveries and I am fucking wiped.
was 113-115, still 110 where i'm at.
Speaking of deliveries I just got a notification from doordash that today is a busy delivery night >:y
Selfish pricks want someone else to go out and brave the heat for their fast food instead I guess
poor bastards. not even a/c in my newish car is keeping up today, wasn't in the box truck either.
I was lugging around 1/2bbl kegs of beer in and out of nasty kitchens all day but anyone doing deliveries is in hell.
don't blame anyone for wanting to take today off / withhold deliveries at all.
I wouldn't but in the thread I made about the weather we're having, there were people being very serious about comparing our weather to their own, as though that's how it works.
