https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOxScBTcWtI&t=2s I made a video on my favourite topic ever. Its editing is quite rough and I'm not expecting anyone to really get blown away by this thing but it was a fun little thing to work on in my spare time. I oversimplified the yugoslav wars because I didn't want the video to be 9 hours long but rewatching the video now I feel like I might have made a few factual errors in the intro oh well
Honest question here will you be making another one? I really liked it.
Maybe? I dont have any explicit plans but I didnt really plan to make this one so you never know.
Well whether or not you do, I support any future videos or projects you might present here.
Pretty great analysis of not only the music, but the wars themselves. Good job.
loved it! i get to hear a lot of electric synth fart music (and stuff somewhat similar) being in a kosovar albanian family. you did a great job with it. always loved how hilariously dark and pointless, as you put it, the wars became, and the music as a result.
Loved it, great analysis on Oj Alija, Aljo. I kinda like the guitar on that song, but yes the lyrics are so bitter and spiteful it makes the song fascinating. In case you didn't already know during the late 1980's Yugoslavia had a big rock scene, with this song in particular having a rather ironic meaning during the breakup of the country and subsequent wars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpMAfJv7J2Y
I remember when you told me about your obsession ages ago, and even after watching this video, I'm still befuddled! Turbofolk is trash! Bring me back to the days of rock and electronica, please, anything but this turbofolk hell we live in today.
I remember once I was driving home at around 8pm, and I was going through all the different radio stations. At some point I came across a fucken radio station playing old 90s yugo turbofolk in god awful quality. I fucken laughed my ass off when I started hearing it
M8 there's more to Yugoslav music than the meme tier war songs we sing drunk, like i did last night for a minute with my buds, lel
I've heard this one! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DAvL5eadVw This movie is pretty decent IMO it gets a ad rap
Now, if you wanna get into the Yugoslav music, I can recommend some 90's shit too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UxPTGk_uzPU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAt8dLYBWD4
When I hear the word turbofolk, I always think about bulgarian horo music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94s0_GyJyMM
Something I've noticed from the Crotatian music of the era is that it sounds very western. It's probably the least "folky"
