So I Installed Every Single Creation Club Mod... [Loads of Images]
14 replies, posted
So I went ahead and totally didn't buy every single creation club mod available (as far as I can find, I think I'm missing the newest wave). I wanted to see how much of an impact it would have if one were to purchase every single mod available to them, and how that would affect the game experience.
Now obviously no one is actually supposed to, or willing to, buy every single mod available on the creation club. This post isn't meant to be a legitimate criticism of the service as much as it is some fun. That being said, I always wondered what the Fallout 4 experience would look like to a typical 'whale' consumer, someone who just has to buy up every single little piece of content available for a game. How would the game look, on a new play through, when loaded up with all that content?
With that being said, allow me to introduce you to the adventures of Chad Thunderbuyer.

Oh.
So quite expectedly, the quest logged is absolutely flooded. If you didn't go ahead and purchase every single variant of dog the quest log isn't that bad, but you still get the "full DLC installed" experience but like, times ten.
Thankfully the inventory isn't as bad as New Vegas with all the pre-order bonuses was. Only the first wave of creation club content seems to be added automatically, which is just the homemade shotgun, the prey suit and the doom armor. The doom armor is actually really good starter gear, basically being an armored radiation suit with 1000 rad resistance, 90 damage resistance and 150 energy resistance. Not too bad when paired with the military backpack you're given, as well as two different kind of dog collars for some reason.

Chad Thunderbuyer is now ready to explore the Commonwealth, hopefully breaking the game before it even starts. While I really wanted to tick off those dog quests, I decided I would go around and get all of the practical items first. The BFG9000 was first on my agenda, being found just on the edge of the glowing sea. I thought I'd discover a few locations for later fast traveling and see how well a low level character with the doom armor would fare in the most dangerous area of the game.
Along the way I nabbed a couple of nearby doggos and sent them back to sanctuary, and stumbled upon the Slocum Joe's loot spot.

So now I can build donut stuff or whatever, but more importantly, I found what will soon become Chads go-to casual wear.

I found Mercy crouching by some hill and proceeded to get shot in the face and die. Snagging the BFG at level 3 or so was harder than I was anticipating, and the ammo I managed to find wasn't enough to really use it as a viable weapon for now. Still, I had this as an emergency. I was hoping the game would be considered officially broken at this point, but I still had things to do. I had an overpowered weapon, now I needed overpowered armor.
Along the way I got distracted picking up a few more dogs. I have to say, running around the Commonwealth securing your collection of dogs is quite endearing.

Note the broken names. Either a consequence of my lazy process of cleaning my mod slate for this post, or my less-than-legitimate method of collecting these mods.
I decided I'd go get the Hellfire armor. I don't know why, it seemed the coolest. I had heard that the CC items had started to get basic quests attached to obtaining them, and was looking forward to something more involved than the BFG. Unfortunately, I chose wrong with the Hellfire armor.

Pyro, the owner of the Hellfire armor, was just chilling around with a group of other fire-inclined lads. I included the before and after results of firing just one shot of the BFG at him. Not bad.

I can't emphasize enough how the most fun I've had so far has come from these dogs. What is clearly the worst purchase you could make ends up coming together to be a fun doggo fetch quest if you do what you're not supposed to do and have all of them installed at once. I've picked up a bunch of dogs I forgot to screenshot and I still have like, 5 ones left.
When I was running back-and-forth for these dogs, I came across the quest location for a quest called "Carbonated Concerns". I wasn't familiar with what this content added, so I decided to have a thorough look.

Ah - but the door is locked! Could this be the famed "quests" attached to the CC content I've heard so much about? On a table behind me was a note left by a woman named Ellie, presumably the owner of this mysterious building. She's...gone to a bar, and left a note behind. The bar is around the corner. But hey! A quest! I wonder what this Ellie is like. Why does she own this presumably Nuka Cola themed diner? Does she run it? I wonder who runs the bar she has gone too. So many questions! I can't wait to talk to her.

Lol ok. I guess I was expecting too much. Anyway I nabbed the key off of her and let myself into the Nuka Cola diner. Ellie left some notes behind to read, pretty neat.

"It's a wonder this place hasn't been looted clean."
Yes Ellie. Yes it is.
Either due to an unclean mod slate or due to mod piracy, this diner was broken, with the terminal and loot chests clean. Whatever was here (presumably a furniture magazine and more garish clothing) is unavailable to me.

Rad.
I was feeling a bit empty after visiting the diner. It was lacking the thrill of collecting dogs, the satisfying payoff of the donut crate. It wasn't because I couldn't find any loot, it was because of that quest. So simple, so boring. I decided I would have to pick one of the more interesting sounding quests. But first.

One of these adorable lads brought me up to the north-west end of the map, right next to the Museum of Witchcraft, which also contained one of the creation club quest markers. This was perfect, I thought. I wanted to see how a new player experiencing the creation club content would fare, and I wanted to get a decent questing experience in. Visiting the Museum for the first time would be perfect. It would be spooky, and whatever quest they slap on at the end would surely benefit from the build-up.
I won't bore you with the run through the Museum. It looked a bit like this.

Oh laaaaame. I don't want to go to Diamond City...
Along the way (collecting more dogs, of course. I'll stop posting screenshots of that now.) I looped down south and mopped up a couple of other items; that chinese stealth suit we're all familiar with, and a laser musket someone must have accidentally renamed to "prototype gauss rifle."

So at this point, Chad is rocking two fairly-capable energy weapons, a mid-end game piece of armor that allows survival in the glowing sea, a very flexible way to expand his carrying capacity with minimal resources, a full set of power armor pieces if he could only find a frame, a massive boost to his stealth capabilities and presumably a veritable dog army waiting back at home. And I haven't even really sunk my teeth into the actual quests that the CC offers.
Anyway. Off to Diamond City.

Here I am, at the Concord speakeasy. Zane is in here somewhere, and I'm ready. It's been a long time coming. It feels personal. After all, assassinating Zane was an idea divinely given to me by a random note in a spooky museum. This is basically my Ulysses. Hours of trekking through the wastelands, collecting gear, hoarding dogs, it all feels like it's come down to this.

Well this quest ended up being fairly mundane. At least I'm going to score an anti-material rifle out of it, right? Zane's story ended up being pretty neat to read through. He too found a mysterious note that sent him on a murder path. Poor Zane. He really was Fallout 4's Ulysses. Underrated character.
On to more creation club busywork, I guess.

Rushing these CC items was becoming harder and harder. This fucker was on top of Greentech Genetics. Gathering all these CC mods has really taken me on a ride. I was about level 15 at this point, and I hadn't even started the main quest. Or any quest, for that matter.

Reading Connor's story probably would have been interesting. There's this whole spooky plot about these three pals passing around a murder-inducing piece of paper to one another, before it ends up influencing you yourself. But I didn't (hypothetically) pay money to read ill-fitting fan fiction. I want that sniper rifle baby.

Quite dejected from the sub-par questing experience, I moped around a bit collecting dogs. I pondered on what quest to tackle next, where the dog collection spree would take me. The astronaut power armor quest seemed interesting. And I wanted to do the tunnel snakes quest. But then I noticed something, after collecting a few more dogs (and the shiba fucking memeing at me, look at that hand placement, did you even try Bethesda?)

All of the dog quests are...finished? Had I really just spent hours collecting dogs? I felt surprisingly empty. Why did I no longer feel any pull to hoard all of this creation club content? I suppose I had my fill. My character was well and truly ready for the main game ahead of him, decked head-to-toe with useful gear. I decided to take Chad back home, to where it all began, to spend some time thinking on past adventures.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/185499/bdefeb66-4514-4f82-b9bc-77a4163b40eb/20180707160105_1.jpg
I had it all, really. All the guns I needed, enough protection that I could upgrade to last me most of the game. I even had quite a few levels accumulated. Surely the game's progression should be thoroughly broken by now. The rest of the adventure will be a piece of cake. Yet, as Chad reflected, he realized he probably wasn't ever going to go after Shaun. No, until Bethesda sells Father collars that allow Chad to apply skins to Father to change him to Dad from Fallout 3, Chad has no interest in perusing whatever happened to his boy.
Instead, Chad is pretty happy sitting in the ruins of his old home (He's not really interested in building anything either, not until he can buy prebuilt settlements from the creation club.) hanging out with his furry friends. Gathering them was pretty fun, after all.
I actually enjoyed running through the short amount of creation club content that I did. I mean, I had a draw in collecting the dogs, and it sent me all across the wasteland, preparing me for the main game in tangibly useful ways. It had me thinking, is the creation club really that bad? I mean, I had fun. All I would have to do is buy all the dogs if I wanted to replicate that experience legitimately. After all, isn't that what we're all after? A little bit of fun?
I think we all know the answer to that question. Is the creation club worth it?

No.
finally, a modern day drunk oblivion, well done
only in this case OP is broke
Not a single picture of the dog army. For shame.
You're right. Ending the whole ordeal without showing all the dogs was a pretty big let down. They're just so unruly in Sanctuary, it was difficult to find them all. But I found all of those good boys a new home where they can be safe and contained.
https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/185499/d43a1e42-8446-43ca-8294-94d82665abec/20180708022526_1.jpg
It was pretty great seeing the mass exodus of dogs from sanctuary, I really wish I had recorded it. I'm honestly not sure if that's even all the dogs, dogs seem to fade in and out at random and I swear I keep seeing new breeds pop up. Bonus video of the dog house in action.
Also, I took this screenshot but I didn't include it as it really wasn't relevant to my adventures. It just spoke to me.

LOOKUP FAILED!
Curated content, right
https://i.imgur.com/YBueEGT.png?2
In all sincerity I'm mildly surprised that it all works aside from the broken Slocoms Joe and LOOKUP FAILED. I haven't seen any mesh-error invisible checkmarks up in here
The LOOKUPFAILED! thing can happen even if you get the mods through the CC.
I have two of the dogs because they were free at some point, they are both named LOOKUPFAILED!.
Lookup Failed is entirely mod related, it's caused by having outdated strings files (likely caused by Full Dialogue Interface). Bethesda updates the strings files with most updates to include things for CC content (like with almost everything relating to the dogs), so it's easy to end up with outdated versions if you're modding them. The trunk and terminal in the Nuka Cafe aren't bugged either, there's supposed to be nothing in them. I assume the terminal is so you can play holotapes, but who knows why Elianora didn't put at least some of her new custom outfits in the trunk.
It is kind of unfortunate you didn't do the Tunnel Snakes and Captain Cosmos quests, though. They have new areas for their quests to take place in, rather than just being entirely placed in existing locations like all the other quests. That still doesn't really make the CC worth it though, the vast majority of the content is just skins (including ones only available for a limited time), and there's still a large amount of it that's bugged and isn't likely to be updated. And even when things do get updated they can still be bugged, like the sights for the Handmade Shotgun.
Ahh that makes so much sense. I have to admit, I know pretty much nothing about what is added in with these mods, so the discovery and assumptions were half the fun. I assumed the Cafe was just a holder for some loot, but I'm guessing it's one of Elianora's amazing player homes.
I tried not to shit on the mods too hard in my post but that Cafe was absolutely garish, I can't imagine settling in there. Even with the ENB off it was just too damn bright. Knowing it was made by Elianora really explains a lot.
Maybe I'll take Chad through the Tunnel Snakes and Captain Cosmos quests, too. I had a feeling they were a bit more full on content. That is, once I get the CC Dog Companions mod working and get my dog army properly mobilized.
From what I've hear, the Tunnel Snakes and Captain Cosmos seem to have the most content of the CC. You should try a second set of this and do those quests.
