• Trading in car for newer car

Hey there, I've been thinking of trading in my current car for a newer one and I wanted to get a little bit of advice from people who have more experience. Currently- I own a 2012 Dodge Challenger SXT.. which is just the V6 model. It was my first car and I was really happy with it. I doubled down on a few payments and currently speaking, I only owe 6.5k left on it. While I am happy with my car, I still do want to have the big V8 version of it. I was looking at a 2015 Challenger scat pack, which has a much bigger 6.4L engine and has a updated body style, with better safety features as well. Although, lets be honest, dodge doesnt make the safest of cars. I was wondering if someone could help me accomplish this goal of getting my dream car!
As a Dodge owner, research gas mileage before you act
In terms of the finance you want to make sure that the current value of your car will cover or exceeds the existing finance figure, that's the most important thing. When I traded in my car a couple of weeks ago, they only covered the outstanding finance figure, which left me with no deposit - luckily I had some savings to cover that and bring the monthly payments down to a decent level. As above, look at the running costs for the car. MPG, tax, servicing, spare parts, etc. Those figures can make a car a living hell. The price of spares alone massively affected my choice in car, because I wanted to get something that would be on the cheaper side to repair. Out of the choice of Ford, Mazda, Subaru, MG, Isuzu, Vauxhall, Mitsubishi and Toyota, the only real choices are Vauxhall and Ford because they're common enough that the spares are cheap (this is where my time in an auto parts shop comes in handy). The MG I tried was nice but they're not proven yet in terms of reliability and everything else would be too expensive to repair.
By the finance figure, I’ll kind of give you some numbers. my current car has a KBB value of around 11k-13k depending on the condition. Engine runs great, only 75k miles, paint is good apart from one alligator skin crack on the plastic bumper. The NADA value is around 11-12k as well. The car car that I want is a Scat Pack challenger, which goes for around 29-30k.
