At the same time, the party is standing by a lawmaker who has been charged with sexual assault and perjury. It also backed a former lawmaker who has been arrested several times.
So is the Democratic Party trying to sabotage itself?
They care more about being corporate fucktoys than they do anything else. They'll take money over policy because money talks.
There's probably a legitimate fear that if they go too left the big donors won't support them and they will lose elections.
Thank you so much for authoring the Citizens United opinion Anthony Kennedy, what a conflicting person.
A part of me genuinely wishes the progressive wing would split off into their own party but unfortunately unless the Republicans also do so then splitting would be political suicide. For now I guess we just have to wait for the established leadership to slowly die off.
It really would? I mean, at the last election if I remember it right, the Dems were gaining a lot of push until Sanders lost agaisnt Hilary, and the third party was really close to get representation in some parts even if they were "nobodies".
If they split off, maybe the left in the united states could really rise at least. I mean, the two parties would become the two faces of the same coin, and you would get all the charismatic people with their great ideas independently.
If the far right managed to get Trump as victor, why the left can't repeat the same achievement with ethic measures?
If the progressives split then you split the vote. Splitting wouldn't help anyone right now, especially if we have Trump running for a 2nd term.
This just made me think of a potential future:
The GOP goes too far-right, to the point that they can't control their own party anymore. However it also goes too far-right to the point that it loses a large amount of support from the American people, essentially becoming a fringe party and begins to die off. The Democratic Party, at the same time, begins to venture further and further right until they actually begin to properly represent conservatives, and end up gaining their support, becoming the new modern-day GOP. At the same time, a more proper leftist party splits from the Democratic Party and takes what place they originally had, and the whole system just sorta begins to fix itself in that manner.
However, I can already tell that won't happen just due to how polarized the public is. Even if the GOP were to die off, I highly doubt any of their remaining moderate supporters would ever think of supporting the Democrats, no matter what. They'd support their team to its last breaths.
Can any Muricans explain to me why the Democrats have such a big problem with corporate control when the GOP are so massively pro-business?
Pretty much corporations have been influencing both parties since forever. Except the GOP went full retard and cranked it to 11. So the Democrats look far more tame in comparison. But still are under the influence of lobbyists and corporations, just not to the extent that the GOP is. Which is why progressives are wanting to cut out that shit completely, instead of pretending like they aren't under the influence of the dollar, like the democrats.
Unfortunatly both parties bend over for corporate donors. Republicans are just more bold faced about it while also not giving a hoot about the poor.
It's unfathomably fucked up that sucking corporate dick is more or less a requirement for winning elections, since the campaign would suffer without those donations. Big props to whoever thought up this scheme.
Money is free speech protected by the 1st Amendment now as of CItizens United v. FEC.
The US has had a very long history of political corruption before that though.
I'm just glad there's some sizeable backlash from this. Better than "unfortunately uhhh uhhh shit fucking sucks and uhhh we should just curl up and die lol"
This seems to be a trend in general. The Democrats have a tendency to devour their own instead of uniting and actually fighting for a common goal.
Both republicans and democrats are right wing parties, it's just that republicans are the far right and democrats are right. US has no centrist or left parties.
They been exposed themselves since 2016 to want keep Clinton/Obama Democrats so much they had to sabotage the Anti-Establishment candidates from winning.
Couple with that the fact that the GOP has a massive ongoing 24/7 propaganda campaign designed to paint the Democrats as 'far-left' and you've got a Republican party which is moving further and further to the right by the month, to the point where even the Republican old-guard is losing control of the mess they've created.
Embracing progressive candidates is a worthwhile gamble for the Democrats to make. They cannot afford to be anything less than a punch in the GOP's jaw.
