This just screams many arm injuries and at least one Tommy John before the majors.
He'll sit in the minors for a few years before seeing the majors if he ever does. I just hope he gets an education to fall back on, because relying on sports forever rarely works.
Oh yeah, he's got a long way to go before he even gets to AA. But he's also 16 years old, his arm is fairly green, and he is going to be subject to a lot of competition now. My main worry is that he will be overworked, most likely by his own self.
I'm not familiar with the KC minors system, but he should be in good hands. The shame is some teams put very little into their farm systems and they lose talent from injuries from things like this. Too bad he didn't sign with us at the Cubs so he could be in Yu's shadow. Although with a trade approaching, that could change.
Terrible idea, pulling in a pitcher before his body has even finished developing is just asking to ruin his long-term career.
Same thing with Homer Bailey. Guy started early, roughed up his body fast.
The guy is 6'2" 170lbs, I think he's done growing. The issue is his arm strength and how they build that going forward. His growth can be managed, he just needs a pitching coach and strength/conditioning program to do it.
