Boris Johnson has resigned as foreign secretary, becoming the third minister in 24 hours to walk out of the government rather than back Theresa May’s plans for a soft Brexit.
His resignation follows that of the Brexit secretary, David Davis, and his No 2 at the Department for Exiting the EU, Steve Baker.
As the flamboyant public face of the Vote Leave campaign, Johnson’s departure will deepen the sense of crisis around May, and increase the chances that she could face a vote of no confidence.
The prime minister was due to address her backbench MPs in Westminster at 5.30pm, in an atmosphere becoming increasingly febrile. If 48 MPs write letters of no confidence to the chair of the backbench 1922 Committee, Graham Brady, May will face a vote of no confidence.
Don't seem to be many sources reporting it yet, I'll add some more as it's picked up.

For a minute, after the Chequers meeting, I thought the tories might actually just slump through the finish line in tact. But no, they go and prove me wrong by absolutely-fucking-disintegrating the next working day.
And the fact these people will just get away with fucking our country even more than usual, living the high life while everyone else in the U.K. suffers because of their fuck ups just makes me sad.
Seems like the conservative party is really just two halves reluctantly hanging onto each other just to stay in power.
Another spineless, selfish coward jumps ship after months of drilling holes in it.
This is criminal. The future of the UK will be decided how Brexit goes and these clowns have gone and fucked it up and now they're evaporating so someone else takes the blame. People and the economy will suffer from this and they're treating it like some political game.
Holy shit it's all coming apart at the seams.
Thankfully, I think Bojo is extremely linked to hard brexit in the public conscious now.
they'll have scapegoats "We got out because it wasn't being done right" when in reality it was them sabotaging it and making it go wrong.
remember to vote tory in the inevitable upcoming GE! only the tories are responsible enough to fix the mess caused by tories trying to fix their mess!
hopefully the myth of conservative responsibility is well and truly busted to the public
So the spineless coward decided to run off. Not one bit surprised considering that these people only wanted brexit as a political tool, but have no idea what to do when it hits, and of its long term consequences.
SO MUCH QUITTING!
CAN YOU FEEL IT NOW?
CAN YOU FEEL THE GREAT EMPIRE RISING?
CAN YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?
The bloody tide rises.
If she survives this we can start calling her Teflon Theresa
hardliners jumping ship like rats from a boat.
those bastards wanted their hand on the wheel but with no actual plan of how to avoid the impending cliff, other than "look at a flag, beat your chest, listen to the anthem and STOP THINKING"
Rumors are abounding that Gove is next.
I wonder if the usual pandering to xenophobia, and general sentiment that if you are filthy rich and only look out for the filthy rich you must be really good with economics and money, will be enough to save the Tories this time.
If it wasn't for the fact that poor and disabled people were literally dying in droves under Tory rule, It would be an interesting experiment to see just how much the conservatives could screw this country over while still being protected from widespread discontent by the spin put on everything by the overwhelmingly right wing media.
If she doesn't we'll call her Malady May
I can't understand why we haven't ousted every single one of them and called this shitshow off yet.
Even if you wanted to leave the EU, surely you can see that these retards aren't the ones to be calling the shots going into the process. They have nothing going for them except smug, arrogant attitudes, and the desire to make sure they personally come out of all of this smelling of roses even as the British people suffer.
Retroactively begin calling the Tory government after the snap election the Maytanic. The Brexitberg is fast approaching.
long live the empire, am i right lads? right? lads? anyone?
Rees Mogg is landslide favourite for Tory leadership. How terrible.
god i wish tories would stop playing political games long enough to actually get a grasp on the situation
Oh please. That fucking maggot with his "British people are tired of experts" horse shit should never have been in ANY position of power.
I think they intend to challenge May for a PM position - Gove, Davis as favourites. I hope that she calls a GE before then to ensure that we don't get a government of complete wazzocks.
However, it would certainly give Corbyn ammunition...
Not a chance.
My other thought on the conclusion to this disastrous Government was that it was the worst possible team to negotiate any kind of acceptable departure from the EU. Divided, weakly lead until the last, and when the PM finally discovered she had fists, they reacted exactly as she almost definitely knew they would, and refused to be ruled. You cannot have a cabinet without a powerful, influential leader, as demonstrated by the deposing of another Tory PM, Anthony Eden, back in the 1950s following another internationally embarrassing disaster. All they have done is taken their so called 'will of the people' mandate and fucked it all away with dithering and mismanagement until now, people are calling for another vote, knowing full well that we will now vote Remain out of fear of what either major party is offering: different kinds of nightmare.
