So I was talking to a friend about whether or not clans are overpowered and toxic at the moment (they are) and I thought of a possibility which would not only nerf them, but also be a fun event to fight through.
Big Clans
So I thought to myself, "What if the scientists noticed that a clan was getting out of control?" Maybe they'd attempt to destroy this clan.
In the case of a large clan base, Scientists would notice that it's getting a little out of hand, especially if that clan was getting airdrops, crates from the chinook or destroying the bradley/chopper, or building a large base. Towards the mid-late game, the scientists would attack the biggest (most populated/most bags) base on the server. This would have to be sometime when there are at least a minimum of maybe 3 or 4 people in online in the base.
The amount of explosive firepower the scientists would have (maybe even a bradley or chopper for fire support) would be proportional to the physical size of the base, and the amount of scientists would be proportional to the amount of people who own bags in the base and are ONLINE.. For example, if there was a large base with many people online, there might be 2 scientists for every person and a helicopter might come in for an airstrike (it would just shoot a volley of missiles and then leave) to help with destroying some of the base.
I feel like this would offer a good challenge for some of the big clans and an opportunity to earn some extra loot, but also discourage people from building a massive base with lots of people for fear of being blown the fuck out of.
Small Groups
If the base wasn't big (populated, lots of bags) enough to constitute a scientist raid with heavy firepower, then this is where the Bandit faction could come in.
Armed relatively lightly, a bandit faction could attack with beancan grenades and satchels, or perhaps a very small amount of C4 or rockets. Following the proportionality rules laid out earlier, the bandits would attack with cheap weapons and attempt to take them out.
WHETHER THE RAID IS CARRIED OUT BY SCIENTISTS OR BANDITS WOULD BE DECIDED BY THE AMOUNT OF BAGS/BEDS IN THE BASE!
This could perhaps mean that some clans place their bags outside their base, but that's great for clan nerfing as it means that, in the event of a raid, they cannot respawn in their base.
So what do you guys think? If you like this idea please share the thread, I personally think with the proper implementation, testing and balancing this could work very well, although my friend wasn't as keen.
Let me know.

hell yeah, with some tweaks and fine tuning would be nice.
basically the "purge" from Conan
The Purge
I think that wouldn't be good for rust. The game needs to get back to its roots. By just getting a stronger group to attack the large group you just perpetuate the arms race.
The easiest way to limit clans is to allow only one owner for a tool cupboard with no extra authorizations and allow only one bed/sleeping bag per person in game. I keep suggesting this to FP but I get ignored, maybe because they are too busy making it easier for clans.
I don’t play Conan so I wouldn’t know
The aim isn't to slow down the arms race as there will always be one, that's the nature of rust; the simple fact that there are other players wanting to raid perpetuates the arms race. The aim is to weaken, if not destroy, the biggest clan base thereby discouraging people from being in massive groups in the first place. At the very least an attack should cause substantial damage to the base and so make it easier for other clans and smaller groups to raid the biggest group.
If there are no bigger groups on the server, like I said, the Bandits can do the raiding. The aim of the bandits isn't to destroy the smaller groups, it's to provide a fun PvE challenge for small groups of people to fight them off and gain some loot, although it should also cause some damage to their base.
Easier said than done, just look at scientists and you can already see how much work it will take. I don't like the fact that there would be bandits trying to raid smaller groups, when largest clans don't even have a challenge. So i like the part that scientists go attack the biggest bases, but i don't see any reason why some bandits should attack smaller bases.
That's not at all what I meant. I know it would take a lot of work, but helicopters can already use missiles, scientists can go on patrols and such so they can re-use a few things.
I only meant that the bandits attack the smaller bases IF there are no bigger bases on the server. If there are clan bases, the smaller bases won't be raided.
