This is why body cameras should be mandatory. Everything they do should be recorded and stored.

Here's a video I found. Not sure if the actual Facebook video is embeddable, but this is good enough.
He sure has a way with the nuclear option on a group of kids, though.
Everyone who is against body cams willfully ignore the problem of abusive cops.
Or blindly trusts them.
Police are normal people too. Just because they’ve been through a police academy doesn’t automatically make them the perfect civil servant.
Best case scenario, it does, though. Worse case, it gives them power to wrongfully wield against others.
Final disclaimer: I’ve worked with dozens of officers, and they can be some of the nicest, most trustworthy people around, but never think a career is completely clear of assholes and always hold them responsible for their fuck ups.
I dont care how old those kids are, they are acting in an aggressive manor extremely close to him and they outnumber him. I dont see a problem with how he handled the situation.
Paid time off for a month, incident forgotten within two, machine keeps chugging. Next.
but guys, police have the most dangerous jobs! they are stressed to the max, dealing with hardened criminals such as these children. /s
Holy fuck those kids are terrible.
Not to mention having a bunch of kids screaming in your face crying out 'Nigga' and trying to taunt you every two seconds.
Cop was out of line but those kids desperately want to be victims
Yeah when he drug that non resisting kid face first across the pavement I was so with him. He did a great job for the force arresting that kid recording and trying to arrest the other person recording as well. Such a great show of force by our officers of the law! He did an outstanding job!
I genuinely cannot believe that some of you view drawing a firearm as a legit response to getting yelled at by children. Forget carrying a gun because you're worried about getting mugged or murdered, what if a 12 year old calls me a mean name, need to be prepared to stand my ground.
No one had a weapon. No one was hitting him. No one was threatening to hurt him. The people acting aggressive included the kid's mother for the perceived injustice taking place.
If the kids were actually in a manor, there's no way they'd have been treated like that though. Only the poorer people seem to see the worst side of police.
How do you know nobody had a weapon? How does he know nobody has a weapon? Why do you think they have metal detectors in shitty schools? Those little shitheads could have knives for all you or he knows. When you have a mob of people no matter if its 15 or 70 year olds acting aggressively you cant be taking chances, If you have a deterrent you use it.
Shit mom, shit kids, meh cop.
Sam Hyde would be proud.
yeah those ten year olds are totally gonna overpower someone as big as that, especially when he can pretty much literaly crush any one of them and scare them shitless.
oh, and lets not forget the nightstick, and I'm not even gonna count the gun, since I HOPE he isn't enough of a piece of shit to actually consider shooting anyone involved
what did he arrest the kid for anyway? skin too dark? hispanic speech? fucking amazing
The kids are by no means acting appropriately. But, to pull a gun out on an unarmed person let alone a group of kids is unacceptable. If you are a cop and let a bunch of shit talking little kids get to your head to the point you threaten deadly force you shouldn't be a cop. This is from someone who is pro-cop and has is affiliated with police organizations.
I don't see it entirely like that.
The kids are probably pissed and giving him shit for a reason. If what the kid said was true, then the officer was waaay out of line. Imagine people seeing that shit, along with everything happening in the country where they live.
I mean, the kid that was filming was arrested aswell, because of...???? And I have no idea how the cop didn't just arrest the girl he handed the camera to and seize the camera aswell.
You are an authoritarian nightmare.
There is nothing reasonable, rational, or measured about his response.
These are children.
I swear to god, I don't understand how you can post something like this in all honesty. I just don't.
Not one iota of the rationalizations you made to get to this point make sense to me. Can we get a break down of your logic here?
that means you should answer gun in hand to anyone that ups their volume at your because anyone could be armed with anything dangerous.
thats the exact problem: dying because "we thought he was dangerous". Happens with swatting incidents aswell, sad as fuck.
I never said that, I said that in the situation he is in, with a bunch of teenagers getting close to him acting aggressive he responded by using his weapon as a deterrent.
Should a cop assume every person under 18 doesn't have a weapon?
Should a cop let anyone under the age of 18 surround him because they are apparently harmless until their 18th birthday?
What he did was hands off show of force that apparently didn't work because they started coming at him again and he started pushing them away.
Young people are more capable than you are giving them credit for.
No I give them tons of credit.
pulling a gun on kids to calm them down is bad and thinking it would pacify them in this situation was a clear under estimation of their capabilities
lol I hope you never are given the responsibility of handling a firearm, let alone in public.
Drawing a firearm on someone should be a last resort, because when you draw it you should be ready to kill whatever it is you're aiming at.
This officer completely jumped the escalation of force ladder.
Hell he probably could have avoided a lot more anger from the crowd if he hadn't drawn his gun in the first place.
Wtf is with people complaining about the kids? "Pussy as bitch" is pretty appropriate for someone who points a gun at a bunch of kids.
one of the most fundamental principles of gun safety: never point the gun towards something you don't fully intend to kill
if you can't exercise this in practice, you are irresponsible and have no business handling a firearm
That's the problem, a firearm isn't to be used as a deterrent. You never point your gun at anything you don't fully intend to destroy.
You are the "part of the problem with the USA" summed up in a person.
