that's fucking cool but at the same time that means i'm gonna have to go out earlier to get beer fuck
Fingers crossed for an England-France final, it's not often we get to relive that ages old rivalry! Really stoked for it if that ends up happening.
Wellington will rise from the grave.
We just got Lidl in my area and they're awesome, but they don't have a very good beer selection and they throw me off everytime I go and realize I have to buy my own bags so I have to run back to my car and get the reusable ones. Not a big fan of Aldi for some reason
Wait,Lidl in the United States? How the hell did that happen?
At least your state allows them to sell beer. In NJ, only liquor stores are allowed to sell alcohol of any sort. We have no beer in any grocery stores or Walmarts or convenience stores.
They probably got numbers on Aldi's success and decided it was time to expand. It's a very different shopping experience. The stores are much smaller than American stores, have a lot fewer items, and the brands are all brands I've never heard of. However I like their bakery and they have pretty decent prices for stuff. The stores themselves are gorgeous and not as claustrophobic as American grocery stores; Lidl has lots of wide, long aisles with things as opposed to many narrow aisles that two people could fit down at a time with a ton of shit like in American stores. When it comes to produce and meat I dont shop by brand so I dont care but the beer they sell at Lidl in Virginia are these weird brands you've never heard of with packaging meant to imitate macro beers like Coors and Bud Light. I wonder if those sell well since in my area, local craft beers are a lot more popular than macrobeers or knockoff cheap beers. I'd expect them to have more European imports, but they dont carry them for some reason.
Sounds a lot like Aldi here. Pretty much everything is an own brand. The meat at ours is good, well priced. Beer selection isn't bad at ours either, alot of own brand beer is alright. Their own version of Bailey's (Ballycastle) is nice. But the best bit of Aldi is the middle aisle, full of mad shit, hedge trimmers next to some knockoff Crocs next to wetsuits
I prefer import beer mostly. I'm not into a lot of local brands because they tend to be IPAs which taste like shit, but if I can find a local Lager I'll get it. Lidl seems to want to push their own brands which I doubt will sell well because Americans are increasingly more interested in smaller brands than cheap knockoffs of microbrews which they already dont like. Its be cool if they had german brands (which is what I was hoping for when I first went in) but they dont. I do my beer shopping at either target (when I just want a sam adams) or Wegmans or Total Wine (which have excellent import beer selections)
