Why isn’t there something better than PayPal out there that’s used by the masses? Time and again we see perfect evidence that PayPal is scum.
If that letter was sent out by a human, someone's gonna have a VEEEEEEERY awkward conversation with their boss.
Paypal: when you die, your money is ours.
Same reason why YouTube is still so heavily used despite mountains of evidence for poor user support and general scummery. It was the first largely successful service in their field and thus has been deeply incorporated within the internet ecosystem. Sure, Google Pay, Venmo, and other e-payment services exist just like YouTube has Vimeo, Bitchute, etc, but they'll likely never entirely replace PayPal.
For just paying for things online I usually prefer Sofortüberweisung or GiroPay, both are basically online banking payment methods.
You do need online banking though and you bank needs to support it, ofc the seller too, usually its available though when there is paypal.
At least in youtube's case it's because all the other sites' video players are dogshit.
Pornhub's probably the second largest video service, and it STILL has a video player that breaks buffering if you timeskip earlier in the video.
Like seriously, how hard is it to code:
keeping the part of the video that has already been buffered if you want to go back and get a replay
scaling video down to 160p for people with slower internet
giving you the video scaling option BEFORE it has to render the first three seconds of 1080p60fps video
showing an accurate reading of what has actually loaded without it bouncing back and forth constantly
having an audio slider that doesn't make me want to tear my goddamn eyes out
Like literally, that's it. That's all you need to kill youtube, but nobody knows how to make a decent video player.
I doubt that there's any bank that doesn't waive debts just because the account owner's number comes up.
The issue here is not that there's a debt, but the appalling method.
The process of closing an account of the deceased can be found here: https://www.paypal.com/gb/smarthelp/article/how-do-i-close-a-deceased-customer's-paypal-account-faq1694
Sofortüberweisung is shady as fuck tho'
It's not exclusive to them, feels like every single videoplayer I've used apart from youtube or netflix has this problem. I just don't get it.
Tones: "Pornhub's probably the second largest video service, and it STILL has a video player that breaks buffering if you timeskip earlier in the video."
That happens every time I scrub backwards in youtubes player also though.
I thought I was the only one. I dread every time I go to a news article and the video is on a custom player, or trying to rewind on Netflix. Literally every site has no where near as smooth of playback and functionality as Youtube does. Half the time you can't even manually change the quality! I think it's a mixture of: not giving a fuck, proprietary software and design, and the large distribution infrastructure for reliant playback. It also take a lot more work to create a video player from the ground up than one may think and companies are not willing to spend masses of money knowing they will never be as popular as YouTube.
If your going back to any part of the video that is no longer in memory, you will buffer. Even if the file has to be loaded from cache
Not buffering, freezing. It never comes back. You gotta refresh the page.
They are? I know their way of doing the transaction involves sensitive data but even with your PIN and TAN they can actually not do anything besides doing the one transactions.
Everything in online banking requires a new TAN for pretty much every sensitive setting.
I do use GiroPay more often though.
You've never had a videoplayer, when trying to move the timeline back, have it not load the video ever again until you refresh?
Google wallet is a vastly superior platform for sending money to people.
I am stuck with using paypals API and IPN for my store, though. hopefully I can change APIs in the future because PayPal is hot garbage
I haven't either.
there has been, but these things don't just pop up and become successful and trusted over night.
Look into Stripe.
Venmo is actually owned by Paypal
And then you have massive sites like Twitch only provide lower quality settings for non-massive streamers "if we have the resources".
I sincerely doubt it takes any resources at all to stream a 160p video to me over a 1080p video. It's entirely designed to keep small channels small
and large channels large. It's disgusting.
And if they have the lower quality settings at the time? You have to load the entire player and a few seconds of the video in order to change the setting first.
And it won't show the settings if you're currently buffering video, which at 1080p, you will be.
Sorry for leading it all off-topic. I'm just really miffed about not being able to watch my friend's streams on my potato internet.
I literally have only used PayPal when I'm too lazy to find my debit card when ordering something online, and just click "use PayPal."
Been using PayPal since I was 14 (yes, initially my moms card linked to it, I was responsible with it though).
I am 25 now and I still use PayPal a lot for stuff like:
Selling something online and getting transfer to my paypal account which I then just transfer to my bank acc (takes 2 days),
Paying for stuff online,
Buying games/keys/stuff/wallet on Steam,
Lending/Borrowing money from my online friends (people I usually play games with).
So I don't really know what everybody's problem is with paypal.
I tried using WebMoney once but it fucking stucks cocks, it requires 50 steps of verification and 10 steps to login.
My PayPal got suspended for suspicious activity on July 2nd after I resubbed to someone I've been subbed to for 30 months on Twitch. I can't get a hold of anyone who can help. They say the compliance department has to deal with it and they're a back room team and they shut their email down .
Assuming kyou don't run into any issues, PayPal is fine. It's the moment there's an issue that they become shit.
I used to Sell/Buy CSGO Keys and got scammed twice but it was always resolved by paypal.
One time, this guy scammed me for $20 (I sent him money but he didnt send me keys), I called PayPal Ireland and they gave me those $20 (From their own cost as a gesture of goodwill), scammer got away with it but got all his trading accounts banned.
Then another time - I sold keys for $10 and guy tried chargeback but I sent all the screenshots and proof to PayPal and they closed the case in my favour + I got scammer banned everywhere, he later added me and begged to get him unbanned.
Here is funny chat from 2nd story:

(Apparently if you get trade banned - you also cant use CSGL, where he had his shit deposited )
So really, I have nothing bad to say about Paypal, I wouldn't use any other service.
yeah, their support is dreadful and the safety measures can get randomly tripped for no reason whatsoever. It's stressful always having to tread on the line
"we have notice that you are deceased"
what the absolute christ
