Surprised he didn't mention Devil May Cry 1 and 2. Both of those games have fucking awful water sections that control like nothing else in the game
He forgot to mention that underwater levels also serves as a host to the most nightmarish creatures in videogames
I was hoping he'd mention it when he got to Tomb Raider, Banjo and Super Mario 64 and was expecting Half-Life too with the Ichthyosaur
Probably the only water level I ever recall enjoying was the one in Dino Crisis II, and I'm not even sure why since it contains pretty much everything that makes water levels bad. I guess something about that eerie silence and slow movement, after hours of Velociraptor screeches and fast movement made for a pretty cool intermission? The fact that the water level in that is relatively short, and leads into the incredible final third of the game may be why I have good memories of it.
Even Mario Galaxy, which is such a joy 99 percent of the time, suffers from water levels that control much worse than anything else in the game (with the possible exception of the ray surfing and ball rolling levels, depending on who you ask). The worst part about it is that they could have easily fixed that by using the wii remote pointer to control movement underwater. Games like Zelda: Skyward Sword and Endless Ocean did, and they control so much better than the vast majority of 3D water levels.

Water levels often have the most moody tracks in the game because the speed is dialed down, that much i concur. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z-qXwFfQ0Fw
Gyorg from Majora's Mask always gave me the creeps. The ones in Windwaker were kind of creepy too. You're just sailing along, and all of a sudden the ominous battle music starts playing and you see fins swimming next to you. https://d1u5p3l4wpay3k.cloudfront.net/zelda_gamepedia_en/thumb/0/03/MM3D_Gyorg.png/1200px-MM3D_Gyorg.png
I'm so glad this channel appeared, this guy has never failed to make me laugh no matter how I feel. Seems like a super legit guy.
i cant believe hes got 400k subs, he's been making quality content since day one.
Fuck the TMNT dam stage. Back in the day I was a cheating little twit, happy as can be to crack open games with the help of my trusty Game Genie and book of codes. You know what the caveat of the invincibility code for that game was? Worked against everything... except the seaweed. That still hurt/killed you as normal. Not even a Genie could wish me out of that hell.
The water level in the first No One Lives Forever game is actually pretty good.
>water levels >reminded of the underwater hunts in monster hunter Oh god, thanks for the memories of wasting so much time with unbelievably bad controls.
Everybody here forgetting Rayman Origins and it's fantastic water levels?
too soon
Rayman Origins is great all around. The fact that they made an underwater stealth level and it's actually good is a testament to that.
Kotor 2 I don't think had any underwater missions but it did have a few missions in space that were basically the same. Though the devs were smart enough to speed up the slow as hell walk from the first game https://youtu.be/VCE0A9tYOpM?t=716
I think Subnautica's water levels are crap, had to refund cause I couldn't find any none water level
It's like 10% of the game
Didn't that 10/10 IGN meme start because of water levels?
But I loved Hydrocity zone.
Just use a repel lol
https://youtu.be/6i-gl30vflU This is among the first games I played, being like three and I loved this level above all for some reason. It follows closely the tradition of "awful water levels" since not only does it change your controls and whatnot, the level also dims making you navigate in pitch blackness. Still the level was so calm, unique and mysterious compared to all the frantic action Remind me to put forced and out of place water levels in all the games I make
Rayman Origins had underwater cave diving whereas Rayman Legends had the underwater stealth infiltration. But yeah, both games are absolutely fantastic.
MGS2's water section is one of my favorite parts and I thought it was well done. Fight me!
