So whoever owned my pickup before me did a cat-delete, so my service light is always on. I did a check and the computer is only giving problems about the exhaust, so I'm pretty sure it's just the cat delete. Is there a way I can fix that? I own a 2000 5.3 silverado.
Also, I was just given a free cherry bomb glasspack, thinking about installing it. What do you guys think of cheaper exhaust mods like this? I think it'll sound a lot better than my (mostly) stock exhaust, so I'm keeping it.
Don't worry about it. If you really want it to go away, reinstall the cats.
Glasspacks are usually pretty obnoxious. I would be reluctant to put free mystery cherry bombs on my truck without hearing them first.
Most people with custom exhausts (that care about the CEL) use a spacer for the 2nd o2 sensor. Most ECUs are just looking for a difference in readings from o2 A to o2 B on either side of the cat. Without spacers they read the same, and the computer thinks the cat failed.
Thanks for the info! I probably won't end up reinstalling my cat, but I'm pretty sure I saw some parts in autozone that fix this issue. Like small things you just connect to the sensors? Dunno, I'll check it out tomorrow.

(Most fake cats are called "test pipes" and look like cats to fool traffic cops)
It's possible that the fake cat doesn't even have bungs for o2 sensors, or that you won't be able to easily find a spacer for the 2nd one, so you *might* have to get a small custom piece. I don't know what the aftermarket for trucks is like other than expensive.
Oi, pull the cluster and remove the bulb! 2000 still used twist lock bulbs on Silverado clusters. Not sure if the CEL is, but a lot of them are.
And vote me as a "no" for the Cherry Bomb. Sounds like arse, especially with the cats gone already. A paid of Flowmaster 40s or something along those lines.
