trailer did a pretty bad job of reeling me in, not that well edited either probably end up seeing it eventually anyways
I watched it and it was probably the most boring movie I've watched in a while.
c can you just spoil it for me with a spoiler tag so I sont have to watch it?
The only reason I might watch it is because part of it was filmed in the small town I live in. Unfortunately, Forest Whitaker has a knack for getting bad movies recently.
The movie also has absolutely no clue what 'pacing' is.
Arrival and Rogue One are recent movies and the first was exceptional, with the latter being moderate to good.
Son in law and father in law go on a roadtrip from Chicago (?) to Seattle to save the wife/daughter of the two from an apocalypse. Father in law (Forest Whitiker) is a retired GI Joe doll with the knowledge to survive a disaster. Son in Law (generic white man) exists only to make bad decisions and fucks literally everything from beginning to end. They get most of the way to Seattle without anything too exciting happening. They go through Minnesota and pick up a sassy token minority character whose role is to be the sassy token minority character. She soon leaves because she sad that she killed 2 people who literally just tried to kill them and leave them stranded in a forest fire. Why is she upset about killing murderers? Because death is sad and she can't come to terms with an apocalypse so she runs off into a field abandoning the movie as most people have by this point. Forrest Whittiker dies soon after because he broke a rib (????) and Son in Law makes it the rest of the way to Seattle. He finds wife character hiding out with a neighbor in the woods and immediately gets into an argument with the neighbor character for no apparent reason. Son in Law kills neighbor later on for no real reason and he drives off into the distance with wife character. What caused this apocalypse? Probably an earth quake or something. They didn't really address it beyond in-movie conspiracy theories. Honestly it really sucked. None of the characters are compelling, none are relatable, non of the dialogue is interesting, nothing really happens, and nothing matters in the end. The son-in-laws character was just awful and made retarded decisions all movie long that just frustrates you as a viewer. The reason I stuck with the movie till the end was just to figure out what caused all apocalypse nonsense. In the end they never addressed it.
