No news articles yet, but Github has been down for around 15 minutes now. There's bound to be an article soon. GitHub System Statcus https://github.com/
Seems to be fine on my end. Might be an issue with a few servers as opposed to the whole thing. Either that or Microsoft is pulling the plug.
It appears to have just come back online.
Oh boy this doesn't look good for Microsoft lol I doubt it's their fault but people are looking to blame them for something

This has always been my problem with GitHub and why I've been so resistant to it when I have to decide how to upload personal projects, too many treat it as well... A hub.
i've been under the impression that people have been in favor of microsoft acquiring them
If your world ends because Github is down for 15 mins then maybe it's time to reevaluate
Maybe don't only save all of your work and projects in a single location? Always have backups that's like...project rules 101.
But... that's exactly how Git works. The GitHub copy is identical to yours (as much as matters)
github is a essentially a cloning tool. your github folders are always on your local computer
Oh I didn't know that, my mistake.
Nice, happens on the same day that I have a co-op employer looking at my work on there for my application.
Just go back to Tortoise SVN
You'd be amazed how many companies and industries use it
No it's all their fault! They COMPLETELY ruined Github. This NEVER happened before the Micro$oft acquisition. Crap company!!!! /s https://files.facepunch.com/forum/upload/58120/53907416-1c13-4edb-80a0-b15d203d974b/image.png
It's slightly better for PCB design as SVNs can integrate with design programs like Altium better, but how anyone could still use it for code is daft.
If your company or whatever is using Github enterprise for their repos and CI, 15 minutes is a genuine concern to be fair, especially if you're in the middle of a series of builds or something. For consumers and hobbyists? Yeah you lads need to calm down a bit. It's not quite the DDoS to end all DDoSes they had a while back.
i had a professor in college that required us to use it, like last year
if you're using GitHub Enterprise, it's on-premises my understanding is that an onprem Enterprise install wouldn't be affected by GitHub.com going down
TortoiseGit is certainly better than the github client and most other clients at least. The github client is useless simply because it's doesnt support actual git repos.
my god, i haven't heard that name in nearly a decade

IIRC FreeBSD still uses it for their main repo

How could I fight someone who's clearly insane?
Servers going down for minutes to hours is like water under the bridge, it's literally inevitable and it's impossible to have a 100% uptime in all areas it's running.
Tell that to financial organizations.
This strikes me as "calling 911 because McDonalds is out of chicken nuggets" levels of panic. C'mon now.
Hey, at least I don't use Mercurial. I'm also in the process of moving everything to a self-hosted Gitlab for my community.
