Agents of Mayhem how will volition ever recover?????
But what in the fuck does the blue whale challenge have to do with videogames?
Street Fighter 30th Anniversary So wait does that basically ban the entire series or are you just not allowed to play that specific release of those games?
A stupid thing from a few years back where you dare someone to hold their breath until they pass out.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Whale_(game) it's a fake (highly likely to be anyway) "international" game sort of thing. basically the premise some anonymous figure gets blackmail on you and makes you do one task a day (starting small like waking up early, to the final day being suicide) sounds dumb i know
These bans are really strange. It's like a bunch of guys in a room wrote down their favorite game, threw it in a hat and then banned them all. There is no pattern.
According to the Asssociated Press Saudi Arabia says it’s banning a long list of popular video games after allegations surfaced that two children killed themselves after being encouraged to do so in an online game. So if they wish to ban video games filled with violence and online options, then why the hell is Okami on that list? And why is something like CoD or Battefield not? 1/10 consistency
Okami Fucking Okami? I honestly think they're just banning games that don't comply with the government's religious views and using those suicides as a cover.
we're talking about Saudi Arabia here, pretty much everything they do is ass backwards
Hitman: Absolution (2012) At least they can still play Hitman 2016
mafia 2 and 3 but the first one's cool
This was the premise for a Black Mirror ep- (no spoilers) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEDbmwa6a_o
Blaming video games really is the best way to show that you don't actually care about the subject I mean there's plenty of things they could do to instead of banning Agents of Mayhem Also Volition must be happy that their game was considered popular
AP News got it wrong, most of those games have been banned in Saudi Arabia since their launch. They drew the line between a newly updated list and those kids dying without bothering to get confirmation from the actual government organization that published it.
YO-KAI WATCH Wait, what?
Probably used the opportunity to ban any kind of games with supernatural elements. maybe they thought Whisper was too scary for kids? or somethingsomething corrupting youth. everyone knows 2 is better than 1, to the extent that the [sp]time travel[/sp] plot pretty much retcons it. Same thing goes for Okami, probably scared of any kind of japanese influence.
It is always the same from the Government, no matter what Country you are from, GAMES ARE EVIL. It isn't the parents fault for buying an underage child a Adult Only / 18+ / Mature Game It isn't the parents fault for not explaining or giving advice on talking to strangers online It isn't the scum bags fault on the other end of the mic / chat that is bullying or coercing the children Its the games fault. It is always the games fault...
One of the creepy tasks of Blue Whale was something like: Wake up at 3 AM and watch creepy/scary videos with sound, in dark. That shit is weird.
The Blue Whale shit is less a challenge and more psychological torture some idiots came up with and spread around the internet. "Hey let's make a challenge out of doing really stupid detrimental shit and see if people are dumb enough to do it" is pretty much the Blue Whale challenge.
I bet the rich oil sheiks and the prince's get to play these games no problem and only the common man will suffer, ahahaha.
Don't worry about the common man. As long as Steam doesn't enforce the video game ban, it won't matter. But if Steam does, then they would just resort to pirating.
this means nothing, this only bans selling the copies physically in game stores here in SA, but GTA was banned like on release and you can still find a huge community of Saudis playing it because of digital purchases. also, if they banned COD or Battlefield there would be death on the streets, nothing is more arab then playing COD
While the bans for intense blood and gore are obvious enough, I think there's also clearly an intent to ban games with heavy religious imagery, seeing as so many of those games borrow either from Christian or Japanese mythology. GTA V may be specifically targeted because, besides being the newest one, it happens to contain a sequence you torture a guy from Azerbaijan in a scene obviously meant to satirize the way America handles radical Islam. And it's also funny how the first Assassin's Creed, in which you play an arab slaughtering Christian crusaders, is not banned but the sequel where the Catholic church is shown as all powerful, got the ban.
Update 07/18/18: IGN Middle East tells us that the initial reporting around this story is false. Following a Saudi boy's suicide, his father initially told the press that the "Blue Whale" game was to blame, which appeared to kick off speculation around the event. However, the father later retracted this claim, and the cause of the suicide is officially unknown. The Saudi government has issued no response to the event. It's unclear what the AP's source was at the time of reporting. The list of 47 banned games had indeed been put in place well before this incident, in line with the Saudi government's policies on sexual content and strong language.
