Four members of the Russian punk activist group Pussy Riot have been jailed for 15 days for disrupting the World Cup final by running onto the pitch. They were accused of violating the rules for spectators at sporting events and wearing police uniforms illegally. They were also banned from attending sports events for three years.
A statement from Pussy Riot said the aims of their protest included making the Russian authorities:
Free all political prisoners
Stop illegal arrests at public rallies
Allow political competition in the country
Stop fabricating criminal cases and jailing people on remand for no reason
The statement quoted a Russian poet, Dmitry Prigov, who had contrasted the "heavenly policeman who speaks to God on his walkie-talkie" with "the earthly one who fabricates criminal cases".
If this incident didnt have such a wide coverage and such public presence - they would probably have been jailed and never heard of again.
To play the devil's advocado, its only 15 days, could had been alot longer
Nah they've been doing this for years now, since 2011 apparently. That doesn't mean they've been unscathed however, as they've been roughed up and mistreated in general many times, including back during the Sochi Olympics:

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, the brunette in this video, has been part of them since at least 2012, and was arrested for a year, alongside the blonde in this, during a cathedral protest. Other than that, they surprisingly haven't actually faced any serious legal consequences, not that they even should.
Putin is definitely trigger happy in regards to dissent when it's like a sole journalist, but Pussy Riot are just too well-known at this point for him to do anything serious about it.
""Putin will teach you how to love the Motherland"
rofl
I don't get why people are rating this winner.
I think they're rating the protest, not the fact that they were jailed.
I rated it winner cause of their protest, but I can see how that looks bad lol. Definitely don't support jailing protesters at all, and I definitely don't support people being jailed for interrupting fucking sports.
