https://politics.myajc.com/news/state--regional-govt--politics/pledge-fight-poverty-riles-the-georgia-governor-race/r4wxRTDJerhdoqTwAbOAGK/ Except he claims that the reason poverty exists is because poor people just dont want to work and rely on the government instead. This is all while Georgia is going through a massive gentrification in the past 15 years that has caused housing to be out of reach for most of the population because jobs still want to pay their wages from before the boom. But I guess its just people being lazy.
This is his campaign launch video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=owI7DOeO_yg
He's just gonna lower the poverty line or someshit. Or just declare poverty "solved" by governer order.
Cut taxes for the rich, the wealth will trickle down.
how about we cut your salaray
*truck* he was also the one holding a shotgun to his daughter's boyfriend the entire commercial. Also proud racist. Cagle is a run of the mill corrupt repub, but he was caught off camera saying running for the GOP is like a fucking circus with how much racist/insane shit you have to say.
But didn't we already win the war on poverty?
"If I'm elected I promise to *pulls out swords, and winks* SLASH poverty in half!" *Crowd applauses as he cuts a homeless man in half at the waist*

By slashing poverty line half, I assume.
The Trumpublican platform is unsustainable. Trump has further turned the party away from minorities, and the party is having defections from former repubs like James Comey and Joe Scarborough.
its perfectly sustainable, as long as they are healthy enough to cast a vote they don't care if people are dying poor from cancer, alcohol and OD's. people today lack critical thinking skills, especially the older generations, and those of us that do have them are forced to be pragmatic in each election and vote for the nutty candidates that make it through the primary anyways
The GOP is total anathema to all non whites (except Ben Carson lol) I believe over time unless they clean up their act there just won't be enough conservative whites to win elections except in the rural states. Note I mean the Trump inspired platform, not moderate repubs, if any exist by the time he's booted out.
The poverty line is already so low (at least for individuals) that slashing it in half prolly wouldn't do much.
As long as rural states exist, the GOP has a platform. There was another thread here that showed US population is concentrating itself in 15 states, their voting power would give those states permanant control of the House of Reps, while the Senate would be controlled by the rural states. That is because the House of Reps is based on population, while the Senate is based on statehood. So while Califonia has 35 Reps and Utah has 1, both states have 2 Senators and this number applies to all states.
Since the Electoral College is similar to how the House works it's going to be a very interesting future where the House and Presidency are controlled by one party where the Senate is by the other. Absolutely nothing will ever be passed.
so here's the problem, the way demographics are going yes, as population growth seems to be clustered in around 16 states which will become large house strongholds. the minority big tent party will begin to win out in the house, but the senate which has the ability to shape the justice system appointments of all kinds and more will be come more or less ceeded to those rural states which will become more and more homogenous, probably more right wing than ever. fortunately the EC is apportioned by the house this does feel like the ultra right's last gasp because they've hopefully locked themselves out of the millenial vote en large and locked themselves out of any minority vote (except possibly asians which could balance out oddly enough but they're mostly on the west coast instead of inwards)
I thought hispanics would be the most like to vote repub. It's going to be very bizarre when the House and EC are controlled by the dems but can never do anything because of the conservative Senate. Obama but 1000 times worse, they won't accept court appointments, bills or anything.
older hispanics sway republican but with the way the GOP is going its going to be harder and harder for them to feel welcome in their party
Well shit, if he can pull it off then more power to him. But that's a pretty big "if".
He wont. The reason the poverty rate is so high in GA is because jobs don't pay worth a shit while cost of living is exploding. The housing index has exploded since the 90s (bar a dip duting the crash of course) and its quickly putting people on the streets. Just in a year from 2017, the housing index jumped a full 10% and the pricing shows. https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/GASTHPI People are bitching about the homeless now because they are hurting their already ridiculously priced homes without noticing WHY they are homeless in the first place. Majority of jobs around GA are construction based with all the building going on, and while builders are making a killing, laborers are making 9-14$ an hour with apartments costing upwards of 900-1300 a month for a single bedroom flat. On the news they were talking about people that were born here are leaving the state because its becoming impossible to actually live here unless you work in very specific industries. Its also causing a worker shortage in some areas as well and bosses rather just put the remaining workers to the grindstone than pay a livable wage. His Idea of the government programs causing the poor to be poor is completely fucking bonkers, and he and other republicans have been ignoring the massive cultural shift happening in Georgia and rather just put their fingers in their ears and chant about the good ol days while reaping the benefits of modernizing.
Was gonna post this as soon as I saw the title
