http://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/397635-joe-lieberman-urges-voters-to-back-crowley-over-ocasio-cortez-in-general Former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) is urging voters in the general election to vote for Rep. Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) [who now de-facto third party challenger] instead of Democratic nominee Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who upset him in the party primary.
Real mature.
Um afaik Crowley doesn't even want to run and is only on the ballot because of technicalities in New York law.
Ok, That one ways make sense, however... https://twitter.com/NYWFP/status/1017475534023004161 Well, That not what Official Twitter account for WFP New York chapter said. He refused to removed by his permission, thus cause aformentioned law keep him stay as third-party candidate.
naaaahhh im good Ocasio-Cortez all the way!
Well I mean Lieberman is a lifelong establishment democrat and so is Crowley. I didn't really expect him to endorse a socialist who usurped an incumbent democrat; that's not typically how political parties work, they DON'T want new people to come in and replace their old talent
I don't think anybody is confused about the motives, it's still a bad move to make though. Democrats are almost skillfully losing their grasp on their base who continue to demand actual progressive change rather than corporate bootlicking
Kinda weird, despite having same mentality as other corporate Democrats, He did become Independent since 2006 and even run in his supporters-proved third party Connecticut for Lieberman in point and won by near 50% at late 2000s, So their no why still having it for that really long. But weird none less, I guess.
You're assuming their entire base is demanding progressive change. New York is not representative of the entire country. There are many places where democrats win because they're just conservative enough that moderates who swing left are willing to vote for them. The democrats don't want their party to be taken over by socialists because then they'll lose moderates and will lose votes. If the dems only have 30-40% of the house seats, then it doesn't matter if ALL of them are socialists, the republicans are winning.
Remember that after his Senate career, Lieberman worked for a law firm that represented Donald Trump.
Unless he personally worked for him, I don't see how being part of a law firm with many clients is that bad?
This just feels like the same party apologist spiel you walked out during the Sanders primary fiasco. Democrats are making all the wrong moves and continuing to lose public reception and trust in a time where the GOP is literally openly infected by a hostile foreign nation. Americans need a party that actually stands for something other than "we're not the other guys", which is the entire reason the GOP gets away with treason as long as they're actually working on an agenda. Democrats need to recognize the growing demand for focused progressive policy and QUIT EQUATING SOCIALISM AND DEMOCRATIC SOCIALISM.
The district is one of the top 50 most democratic districts in the nation, D +29 with six times as many registered Dems as Repubs. The general should really go the same way as the primary barring outside money.
Joe Lieberman's a tw@, without him the ACA would have had a public option
The Electoral College could have been abolished and universal healthcare introduced when Nixon was president. History's full of things like that
In case anyone isn't familiar, Joe Lieberman, once thought to be slain forever, is a former senator that lives in a submerged crypt of formaldehyde somewhere beneath the capitol. Occasionally, at moments of occult significance, he surfaces, rehearsing a dark, familiar hymnal in which he claims to be a Democrat. Like a siren's call, everyone already knows how it works by now, forcing Americans to undertake the now tedious task of staking him through the heart with a picture of John McCain until his next attack.
A little off topic, but I think those moments in history where people come close to fixing a problem that persists long after the fact are proof that you can't just count on things being fixed later down the line. You can't take opportunities for granted.
Lieberman is a piece of shit and there's now way this was published without Crowley's blessing.
Is Ocasio-Cortez actually economically socialist, or does she just support welfare and social programs?
She economically [Semi-Capitalist] Social Democrat. That like Bernie calling themselves as Post-Capitalist Democratic Socialism in stakes for winning votes in right time.
Nah, I don't think I wanna side against someone who could clearly bite me in half.
Democrats stand for shit they're just not as left wing as you'd like them to be, but guess what? America isn't as left wing as you'd like them to be. Young people can't be counted on to vote for shit so the older, less left wing generations (who don't identify as progressives) are who the parties appeal to. I seriously think if the Democratic party went as far left as most people here would like them to be, they'd lose a good part of their voter base, not gain more. Just because New England and California liberals are okay with someone calling themself a socialist doesn't mean that Virginia or North Carolinians are okay with it. You need to consider the fact that maybe just maybe, most people don't agree with you.
... Man Says Reassuringly After Continued Losses to Republican Party
Bronxite users, how do you think the general election will go?
pls quit reposting republican/Russian memes. You forget that most dems voted for Hillary, not Bernie. Obviously the base is less progressive than you are
And the party system also unfairly treated him like shit, but I suppose somehow getting some surprising victories whilst also gimped is well beyond your attention span.
How was he gimped? Did the democrats somehow prevent Bernie supporters from voting?
Easy, don't fund his campaign. Don't give him any screen time or attack his platform. DNC focused on Hillary 100-1 because Bernie was seen as too radical.
its sort of appalling their editorial standards, like they have all of the Trump admin puttung pieces up that are just detached from reality.
Wow it's like I've been teleported back to the election!
