https://money.cnn.com/2018/07/19/media/comcast-fox-disney/index.html Comcast announced Thursday that it will drop its pursuit of the 21st Century Fox assets that it was fighting over with Disney. Comcast had bid $65 billion for Fox's movie studio, which is responsible for franchises like "Avatar" and "X-Men," along with Fox's regional sports networks and cable channels like FX and National Geographic. Disney's most recent bid was $71 billion. The battle with Disney isn't completely over: Comcast said Thursday it will continue to pursue its bid for British broadcaster Sky, which Disney is also trying to buy through Fox. Comcast has offered $34 billion for that company.
all this just to put the x-men in avengers movies
Even if this means there will be some cool new movies no company should have such a large monopoly
Can't even imagine what 71 billion could do for things like homelessness, world hunger, etc.
Using profits to help people is a bad business decision if it's not tax deductible.
Well can't wait for King of the Hill to show up in Kingdom Hearts 4.
Monopoly is truly a great critique of crony capitalism, Im imagining Disney as the older brother bullying Comcast into giving him park place.
I dislike the idea of a monopoly as much as the next guy but at the moment it really seems like only Disney is legitimately capable of putting out consistently good (or at least fucking acceptable) content of that specific nature. A lot of their competitors had the money and had the IPs but rarely has a ball been dropped as hard and as often as this one.
Usually most nonprofits, charities, etc have good tax deductions so the incentive is certainly there. But on the flip side you have to close the tax loop holes so that its more lucrative in the corporations eyes to do charity and get tax deductions instead of making it cheaper to pay the already low ass corporate tax.
Whether Comcast wins or Disney wins, we all lose.
Family guy in kingdom hearts
God dangit Sora
Being anti-consumer is very good for business.
Bobby Confirmed as Disney Princess, is the real headline.
True, but in this case I consider Disney winning us “losing less”.
This isn’t just about X-men. Disney’s already announced their plan to making a streaming service to compete with Netflix and Hulu. Guess how many movies and shows 20 Century Fox owns to make a solid library for their platform.
I wonder if Disney is gonna changed fox to be more Disney, I can't even picture that.
all of the shows switch to this art style permanently https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1EFA5p4WwXQ
First of all, monopoly breeds abuse. Increasing the cost of things made less expensive by healthy competition while decreasing their quality is one case of abuse which has been seen repeatedly. And most importantly, Disney does provide services and sell goods, and they are looking to expand further in those as well. They've already tried to stop retailers from selling their product in order to sell it themselves at a markup (see the redbox case) and they've retracted from Netflix in preparation for their own streaming service. They are also known for being essentially abusive and possessive towards local cinemas in a variety of ways, including forcing them to screen more Disney properties than anything else and for longer. Sure, you can look elsewhere, but Disney is slowly making sure you have nowhere else to look eventually, or that no matter where your head may turn, they can just grab it and turn it right back.
How do I lose? This means Fox doesnt make a shitty X-Men or Fantastic Four again. Or countless other shit they either made or cancelled over the years. Look I get it, y'all scared of Monopoly and such but Disney is at least an entertainment company that will put these assets to use for our entertainment.
This is a sad day indeed. Capitalism only works for the people if there is competition.
Neither outcome is ideal, but I'd much rather it be Disney than Comcast - not because of XMen appearing in MCU movies, but because I at least trust Disney will use Fox's IP in better ways, and because Disney doesn't have control of Internet Providers like Comcast does. I wouldn't trust Comcast as far as I could throw them.
delete capitalism its not working!!!!
Honestly, it’s kind of awesome to see a show like family guy with actually good animation.
